Pros

opportunity to make connections with kids who really need the support

Cons

Disorganized, understaffed, and unsafe environment: Major student behavioral problems with poorly enforced and inefficient disciplinary system. Must have tough skin to take the constant disrespect and inappropriate comments from students. Must speak up to have things taken seriously, reported, or written down. Must ask questions and advocate for yourself to be educated on any protocols or rules, or to be aware of student’s individual plans Spent most of my time having to chase students around the school and de-escalate conflict. Little consistency working with the same students and age group. Groups always changing due to student conflict and staff quitting (high turnover). Work culture is a bit gossipy, most coworkers are incredibly young (high school). School itself does not communicate well with the program or vice versa. No aids, one on ones, or training for working with special needs students (even those who are very physical). Met with management to report safety concerns and no action was taken. I was clawed in the face days later. Met with higher management to understand why my initial report was not taken seriously but their avoidant response suggested they were only concerned about protecting themselves.

Pros

Most of the people continue to work at the company for the kids. When you're not asked to sub multiple times in a week, you really get to know the children that are at the school you're at.

Cons

-There was horrible communication between the managers or even the people at the top of the company. -Working minimum wage for lots of expectations/responsibilities. -There was lots of favoritism. Some people were frequently asked to substitute while others hardly ever did. -Seems like everything is about what makes them look good but isn't what's in the best interest for the children.
