Pros

Colorful office, free food, good technical team but poor management, over friendly HR with all words and no power

Cons

1. Came over the requirement in glassdoor and was impressed by the reviews and ratings here. Interview process Eventhough scheduled for an hour went for the whole day. Many rounds with same questions being asked over and over again by different interviewers over different rounds. 2. After many more rounds of interview via call, HR issued the offer with very minimum hike but other benefits like shares. HR forced me to reduce my notice period by one month saying they can even buy back the notice period. 3. Two lady HRs one senior and one fresher, kept calling and asking to confirm this over next few days and I talked to my manager and had the notice period cut down. 4. Again HR kept msgng and calling to make sure I am onboard and also sent goodies like a bag, diary, tshirt etc. 5. It was made clear that there won't be any flexibility and employee is supposed to be in office till 7pm atleast, whether or not they complete the work before. 6. I checked about the company with an ex colleague who had interviewed here and he said he was glad he didn't join because they have quite bad work culture and has a practise of revoking offers. I took this for a one time issue probably because HRs seemed over friendly and enthusiastic. There was even a culture round in interview boasting about the unique company culture. 7. Nearing the joining date, I got a call asking to join for a lunch which was planned near my area of residence. Same day night the HR called and informed that they need to revoke the offer because of some funding issue. I was specifically forced by HR to join early stating the same as a reason saying that if I join during the funding time I will vet better value in company stock. Now she called and used the same to revoke my offer. I clearly told her that I don't have any other offer since they forced me to resign immediately and this is unfair. The. I was asked if I could join the same month end to which I agreed. HR called again and sent me a new offer letter with new joining date and said she confirmed the same with CEO. 8. At this point I understood that they were quite pathetic in the work culture and I shouldn't trust them anymore. But since I had no time and no more offers decided to go ahead with this. 9. After few days the CEO called and apologised saying they need to revoke the offer again. Also boasted of her influence with all Bangalore startups and said she can connect me to any of them. I asked her politely to do so, since I was desperate at this point. 10. Over the next few months when I remained jobless and kept contacting them for leads, the HR and CEO showed zero interest in connecting me to any company. They didnot even show the courtesy to check or getback with any compensation. I am currently working in a great work place with double the hike these people offered and with unlimited work from home and vacation options. I thank God for not placing me in the pathetic office Mech Mocha is which just survives on one app that even uses models as click bait. I am glad to not be suffering because of work life imbalance and working under a pathetic HR team that is just all words.

Pros

Being a startup, it naturally exposes you to a whole new world of learning Awesome food. Fancy office space.

Cons

No vision at all. And no, this is not the kind of usual pivots that startups have. The thing that is happening here is rooted in a deep lack of direction. Co-founders, having no experience of working in any other company, barely have any management skill or company etiquette. I have worked in many startups; and a little bit of chaos is absolutely normal. But this is way too much beyond it. The CEO is loud mouthed and is seldom open to others' ideas. This again probably comes from not having any work experience in the real world outside of your own company. The funds are drying up, and there was hardly any significant amount raised in the last funding round, nor being raised currently. Many people were asked to leave. And some have left on their own, after the cash crunch started.

Hire and fire kind of company

Pros

Yoda the dog and a fancy office space

Cons

Lot of cons that are not spoken about. The CEO is loud and will not listen to anyone else. She does as she likes and will take all the credit to herself, even if the idea was given by a employee. None of the products have been successful. They were initially a game company and now have moved to entertainment. There is no revenue generation. Promotions and hikes are based on how well you get along with the HR and the CEO. Worse of all they have a hire and fire policy now. Almost 10 people were fired in 2 months. They fire people within 2-4 weeks of joining without citing any proper reason. Do not join the company if you are looking for growth and a good career. They will paint a rosy picture but the truth is that the company is bad news for your career.

Mech Mocha Response

We understand that you had a bad exit with us, given the 4 back to back reviews you have left on Glassdoor within 2 weeks. We want to share our response, as an anonymous platform requires everyone to voice their side of the story. Our journey to our current product Hello Play is well described on our website homepage. Like any other start up such as Slack, Twitter etc. we have gone through multiple pivots- from gaming, to game publishing, to social gaming platform. We couldn't be more proud of the journey. We were pre-revenue for good time, just like any other early stage startup. We are super thrilled to be generating revenue now. Our app Hello Play is now ranked within top grossing 100 on Google Play ‘Social’ category and has healthy ad-revenue generation. We believe a startup needs highly aligned and performant individuals. Hence we review and give feedback very actively. We have a 4 point color code system - Gold, Blue, Orange and Red. We give ample time for individuals to work on the feedback given. If things don’t improve over months, we decide to part ways and help our team members find new roles in other companies. It might sound unfair to folks who go through it. We understand. We have a very clearly defined performance review system - we do reviews at least thrice a year. There are so many individuals who have grown tremendously with us. Please read about one of our engineers journey here: https://medium.com/mech-mocha-blog/journey-from-an-engineer-to-an-engineering-owner-9a2ce6068a5 or simply browse our team’s LinkedIn profiles :) For new joinees, we have 15-day and 30-day checkpoints for reviews, as we want them to get up to speed in a short time. We hire highly ambitious people who usually fit this structure. We hope you can get over this and not leave more reviews :)
