Pros

Fairly good benefits, pay equal to other healthcare organizations not worth the cons! Run don't walk away from this employer!

Cons

Listen when they say the culture at BHD is not for all! This is entirely accurate. The management and supervisors at BHD lie, play favorites and continually change the rules. There is no support among the staff; it is highly divisive and counterproductive to meeting the needs of the patients and staff. This is a horrible place to work...run don't walk away from this place and forget the hire on bonus if you are an employ who is honest, hardworking and truly care about your patients and their well being you will not last long enough to receive the bonus. Also, the safety training you get is only to protect the county it does not apply on the job, be prepared to be hit, kicked, spit on and possibly seriously hurt because you are not safe and management does not have your back.

Pros

Great opportunity to serve the underprivileged and learn about mental illness. Excellent place to learn how to prioritize, deal with challenges and changing situations. Many new staff are open to the changes taking place and are easy to work with. Management appears to be making an effort to raise standards of care by requiring more in-services and offering optional training opportunities. We are working towards gaining Joint Commission Accreditation.

Cons

ALL previous comments regarding CONS still exists....VERY low morale (US against THEM mentality), many staff that have worked here a long time are negative and resistant to change, some CNAs have been known to undermine RNs or flat out refuse duties, frequently short staffed or floated to other units however they don't seem to mandate anymore, staff at times are outwardly unprofessional towards other staff, patients and visitors, the abilities of some security personnel to provide safety is questionable (physical abilities, mental capacity to ignore negative/antagonizing behaviors, etc...)

Pros

paycheck , working with the patients

Cons

racists against whites, the nursing assistants run the place-management allows this by undermining the registered nurses. They discriminate against new nurses over forty and allow new graduate nurses with lack of experience to run the place which is age discrimination. The nursing assistants and unit clerks leave the units during work hours to socialize with each other.
