I have been working at NFU Mutual full-time

    Pros

Generous perks like company bonuses, discounted gym membership, and ability to purchase more annual leave

    Cons

SO outdated! In every sense. Top two tiers of management/directorship all belong in the 1950s. Old IT equipment and software (which frequently breaks down). Old processes which are slow and bureaucratic. Always hesitancy around flexible working even though most other companies are happy to oblige. But most of all - old mindsets. No sense of the value of diversity (at head office I can probably count on the fingers of...

    Advice to Management

Retire. And allow yourselves to be replaced by managers and directors who are a lot more forward-thinking.

I worked at NFU Mutual full-time

    Pros

Relaxed, sociable atmosphere in a modern office environment. Flexible working hours for the most part.

    Cons

Lack of positive feedback, even when going above and beyond. Underperformers left unaddressed by staff, with the better staff picking up the slack.

I have been working at NFU Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Supportive team management Very little top down pressure Job security

    Cons

Too much work has been brought in house with no increase in staff numbers due to unrealistic expectations that new claims management system would deliver better efficiency immediately when this has not been the case. Turnover of staff has increased as long-standing employees have left due their years of experience going unrecognised vis-a-vis relatively new members of staff. Too much work has been reallocated to departments...

    Advice to Management

Don’t expect so much from the new claims system and employ more staff to deal with backlogs during ‘teething period’ of new claims system. Retention of staff is key - find ways to show current staff that they are valued where there are not enough promotions available to satisfy everyone. Allow each department to get in with their own work, if particular departments need help employ new staff or bring in temporary support.

I worked at NFU Mutual full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There is a pub nearby?

    Cons

As a temporary contractor, I received minimal training on a minimum wage. My team leader constantly changed my job description, even if I wanted to do what I was 'paid' to do, I was informed there wasn't enough work (So why hire someone in the first place), even though there was plenty of work, as evident by the various claims months behind schedule... There was definitely a situation created where 'my team' wouldn't...

    Cons

None that I can think of

    Advice to Management

Continue to consult staff and get them involved. Continue to communicate.

I worked at NFU Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Most of your peers are brilliant. The people make it. Decent salary.

    Cons

The management i.e. Team Leaders are shocking. Lack of knowledge and interpersonal skills. They get paid a lot of money to be number cruncher but lack any of the other attributes of being a "people manager". It's just an inbound call center no matter how they dress it up. You are taking incoming calls and work till 8pm. Might be OK for some but if you are moving away from that then this is not the correct move for you.
