    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Nyetimber full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I have worked for Nyetimber for over 10 years and I have found everyone from the CEO down really pleasant to work with and have never been happier in a company than I am now. With good communication via regular company staff days it makes for a good working environment, oh, and the discounted wine helps!!

    Cons

For me I can honestly say there are none.

    Advice to Management

    Onwards and upwards!

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Nyetimber full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great salary, fantastic winemakers, superb offices in central London, lovely team/employees, one vision and high investment, a great energy and belief in the brand/product, possibilities of evolution within the team thanks to a growing brand. I'" having a great experience, it is making me grow a lot and had nothing but interesting interactions with the CEO

    Cons

The CEO is a passionate man that invested everything in his product and in the brand. He is very rational and very involved, so all the Marketing decisions have to be put to him, even with the best arguments in the world, this company is his "baby" and he's the ultimate decision maker. The approach is therefore more commercial and from a marketing point of view based on rational reasons to believe more than on emotional...

    Advice to Management

None. The CEO is very open to suggestions and listens to people advice. He is really challenging but open to be given honest opinions/feedback actually he prefers it from my experience. However if he disagrees, there is no point trying to change his mind as he is very protective of his brand he makes the decisions he thinks are best for the brand: like everywhere else

    I worked at Nyetimber full-time

    Pros

The winemakers are brilliant. Making world class wines that stand out above the rest. Most people who are working there are really great at their jobs. Just a shame they won't be there long!

    Cons

Where do we start! No notable benefits to speak off. Some discount on wines, but limited to handful of cases per year. Senior management with zero people skills or management skills. Vanity is the name of the game at Nyetimber. And doing what you're told.

    Advice to Management

Trust employees. Give them the freedom and the tools to do their jobs that you pay them to do. Not every decision has to be run past the CEO for his approval! Invest time and money in training management to manage people, not on new office furniture or yet another consultant.

    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at Nyetimber full-time

    Pros

Fabulous settings, reasonable salaries, discounts on some of the wine.

    Cons

Management is unprofessional, unfriendly and poor. A HUGE turnover of staff mainly down to either the unfair dismissals or employees seeing sense and leaving. A stressful and unstable place to work, no one feels safe in their job because of the CEO, it really doesn't matter how good you are in your role!! Unfortunately the CEO has no morals or conscience just more money than sense.

    Advice to Management

The CEO needs to steer clear of the Nyetimber offices in order for employees to get on with the jobs they were hired to do and do well. This might in turn, help the CEO to clean up his atrocious (but fair) reputation as well as prevent any further court cases or staff walking.

I have been working at Nyetimber

    Pros

You get a good tan from working outdoors. The company have an optional pension scheme.

    Cons

The upper management do not listen to lower management nor do they fully understand what they or others are doing. The phrase "winging it" comes to mind. The company jumps to point out when people do things wrong but ignores areas where they know things are less than a basic standard for a working environment.

    Advice to Management

Use more systemic chemicals to combat disease. Yes they cost more, but it is a false economy using cheap chemicals that don't do a good enough job. The less you spend on chemicals the less tonnage of fruit you get due to englands weather conditions. Reward workers for having a good input in how to do tasks more efficiently, even if it is a pat on the back.

I worked at Nyetimber full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A fantastic product, made by excellent winemakers and being represented by a solid and professional sales and marketing team. Stunning locations both at the estate in Sussex and in the Mayfair offices.

    Cons

The owner has no idea about the wine industry, common courtesy, basic manners, etiquette, how to speak to people, or anything else. He creates a noxious and poisonous environment that results in horrendous morale and a very high staff turnover. He also has a habit of insulting people from the industry and then being upset when they refuse to list the brand in their account.

    Advice to Management

Employ a professional CEO and get the owner as far away from all operations, decisions, customers and staff as possible! (Mars would be an excellent option!)

I worked at Nyetimber for more than a year

    Pros

A beautiful Mayfair location with stunningly manicured grounds in the Sussex countryside. Some excellent albeit under-appreciated staff.

    Cons

An incurably sick company due to the tumor being located inoperably at the head of the company. The owner is a man whose ignorance is exceed only by his inability to empathise with other people. His adolescent ego is protected at the expense of everything else by a scared but callous cabal of upper management facilitators, resulting in a truly shocking corporate morale, and a prolific turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

Sadly this company is incorrigible but were it to give its staff the opportunity to do their jobs to the best of their abilities then it would reap the benefits of actual expertise.

    Pros

It's a great product. Has a switched on sales and marketing team.

    Cons

Poor morale, high turnover of staff, comically poor man management, amateur level business processes.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and respect your staff. Teach your managers some people skills. Money can't fix all problems.

I worked at Nyetimber full-time for less than a year

      Pros

nice London location, lovely rural location and interesting to be part of emerging UK wine industry in which there are exciting opportunities, great marketing / sales

      Cons

appalling morale, economically disastrous turnover of staff, ad hoc and hysterical management pattern, inability to recognize, nurture and develop talented staff, held in extremely low regard by local rural community which precludes best & brightest rural youth from joining the company - a huge disadvantage in terms of recruitment........overall a dysfunctional and unsustainable situation

      Advice to Management

hire experienced wine industry professionals and allow them to do their job, take their advice and stabilize the situation.....retaining staff is a hallmark of good management
