Pros

- Great location downtown, plenty of places nearby for lunch - You work hand in hand with your teammates, you mentor them, they mentor you, so they become your friends - A decent mix of modern technologies - 1 WFH day a week and 20 PTO days every year is pretty solid. - Fun creative open floor plan, and the office is pleasant in appearance - Free animal crackers in the kitchen

Cons

- No team ownership of process, everything requires sign-off from a dozen people. So you will need to explain technical things to people who have no idea what you are talking about, several times per release. - Its frustrating, if you actually care about delivering value to the user - There used to be a flat hierarchy (fall 2018 and before), where teams were responsible for their project, culture was pretty groovy. Then they reorganized to add layers of management and "architecture", and teams stopped owning processes and trust. Culture died. They fired everybody's favorite manager. They did a mass layoff of half the engineering floor, 31 people. Everybody else updated their resume and left.

Pros

When I was there, I worked with a great team who worked together very well. I was optimistic about the company when I left.

Cons

They recently laid off a very substantial percentage of the engineering staff. Google "OnShift layoffs" for details; this is public information. The people they laid off included some of the smartest people I've ever worked with. Morale seems to be quite low among many of the engineering staff still there.

Pros

If there are any, its the people. I enjoyed my co workers company and they kept me sane throughout the day. Also, my compensation was fair...not great, fair.

Cons

Middle management is used like puppets and it trickles down to their employees. When you start they will lead you to believe that independent thought is valued and that could not be any further from the truth. They also lead you to believe you are coming in to interview for one job, and then offer you a lesser job and ask you to work for the one you were qualified for to begin with. They over staff the entire organization, and then complain when one person is doing the majority of the work within your department. They blame every change in direction on the company being a "start up" but it is far beyond a start up and there is still little to no direction. The truth is, they just don't have a clear vision and it shows. Over the last several months OnShift has seen a handful of GREAT employees leave the organization for other opportunities and they don't even seem to care about the lost talent along the way. Their loss...from what i hear, it shows throughout the organization. (For the record, I left on my own accord)
