Cons
There are actually no cons to outschool
- Current Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Flexible, great customer service for teachers, parents and kids are great
Cons
Sometimes unpredictable ebbs and flows
- Former Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Flexible. Work from home. Potential for decent money.
Cons
Not stable. Amount of students who sign up for classes ebbs and flows. Outschool hires so many teachers that the market is saturated.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Own schedule and own boss
Cons
You have to create your own lesson plans, sometimes enrollments may be slow
- Current Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Outschool provides dozens of trainings for the more new independently contracted teachers right out of the gate. The background check process is free and simple. The support team that provides support to both the teachers and the families are professional and really helpful. Earning potential has no ceiling on the platform. Teachers on the platform can make work as little or as much as they want and make anywhere for in $1000.00 a month to 10,000 a month depending on how much they want to work and what kind of content they provide.
Cons
There is a large amount of teachers competing for business which can make it difficult to build business quickly. The policies for the independent contractors seem to change every couple months and teachers need to be constantly keeping up with the changes to comply with them.
- Current Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Flexible, remote, self-directed, pay is okay if you can recruit enough students. It can be a fun job as well. They also gave a small bonus at Christmas, which is unusual nowadays. Teachers are contractors, and Outschool takes 30 percent of earnings off the top. The LMS provided with their website is impressive and easy to use. High investment in infrastructure.
Cons
This is a San Francisco-based company with a rigid liberal ideology. The course approval process is terrible. Low-level employees shoot down requests from teachers with advanced degrees and teaching experience because they do not sound the right progressive notes about race and gender. Much of their ideas from the gatekeepers are factually inaccurate as well, but one will get nowhere arguing. I believe that for most people it is not a viable full-time opportunity. Those who teach things like crafts, kindergarten, Minecraft, and coding, probably can work full time and make decent money. Enrollment can also be low. It's hard to crack the code to get steady enrollment and good numbers. Some subjects are better than others. One can also never reach anyone in person who works at Outschool to have a conversation.

Pros
Potential for high hourly rate Flexibility
Cons
Increasing Number of teachers Inconsistent revenue stream
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
super communicative, organized, regular pay periods
Cons
Not super flexible around issues
- Current Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Design own classes and schedule, students from around the world, easy to navigate site, company allows a lot though not all external teaching resources, wonderful students more often than not there by choice and eager to participate. Mostly appreciative parents. I came to Outschool wanting to help the academic inequity/ digital divide during early Covid offering classes for super duper affordable. I really enjoy designing classes and teaching so it's great. Grateful don't rely on the $ from it for much beyond travel fund or extras for my son.
Cons
Must promote classes yourself through social media. Tough to attract students and make much money. Requires a lot of hustle and time to make even a little side money. If you enjoy it, great, it's fun. I don't recommend as a significant source of income unless you're coming into it as a professional group/organization/company.

Pros
I love that I can teach my own content and keep things fresh. Eliminating the commute is also welcome, and now I have a loyal following that I adore from around the world.
Cons
It took a long time to get the first reviews and build up a following. It's also freelancing, so all of the designing, teaching, and administrative duties (scheduling, emails, etc.) are on me, as well as figuring out time zones. Thus, it is time consuming and it's difficult to have a healthy life-work balance.
