Pros

Lots of support for professional development, hard working students, diverse, use of technology is very much supported. High caliber colleagues.

Cons

Meetings, very stressful culture. I sat through so many unproductive meetings and felt that they not only wasted my time, but added to my stress. I have worked at other independent schools and still find that Packer's obsession with meetings was very particular to Packer. I learned a lot during my time as a teacher there, but wasn't especially happy. Very unhealthy work/life balance. There was this unsaid rule that if you don't stay at school until late in the evening, then you're not a hard worker.

Pros

Beautiful facility, good pay and benefits, and lots of talented colleagues. The student body is an interesting mix and more diverse than many schools of it's caliber in Manhattan. It's overall a place that strives to be a progressive and inclusive.

Cons

Certain parents wield a lot of power and there are truly issues of equity amongst faculty and students. Job performance is not always evaluated in a equitable manner. Sometimes it seems internal politics trump actual quality of teaching. As the school becomes more popular and in demand, it seems to be losing it's Brooklyn spunkiness to a degree. There is a growing sense of entitlement amongst students and parents. The behavior of students, especially the level of respect and integrity exhibited, could be stronger if the administration made that a priority.

Pros

There is a lot of support for professional development. It is more diverse as compared to other private schools in New York. Colleagues are wonderful, hardworking and serious about their discipline.

Cons

Stressful culture -- among both students and faculty. Faculty often feel overstretched with duties that go beyond teaching. There are many poorly organized meetings both during and after school. High turnover among faculty.
