Pros

- The product is amazing, it is changing the world - The team is full of brilliant and talented people - great collaboration both on teams and across departments - Have heard that the company does implement feedback over time which is motivation for this review

Cons

-Underpaid significantly according to industry standard (and seemly makeup rules as they go along to keep employees underpaid, ie. "need to be with the company for a year to get any increase" or "increases can only happen at your annual review") - No bonuses - No cost of living increases - PTO combines vacation and sick time - No exit interviews (which conveys that they do not care enough to learn how they could do better to retain employees even though they have retention goals...) - They only have one person to do all of their HR which gives that individual a lot of power and oversight without any balance - Leadership micromanages (need final say over all hires even if the direct manager of the employee wants them; have unrealistic expectations for productivity and timelines like how long it takes to complete XYZ task; they have their fingers in every pot instead of trusting their directors) - Leadership wants to stay politically neutral so as not to upset employees - Love to hire externally over promoting people (which is also almost the only way to increase earning potential)

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We greatly appreciate and value your insight. I'm hoping our recent all-company Town Hall helped to provide better insight into how we benchmark our salaries so we are in line with companies of similar valuation as well as the efforts that we're putting into growing our professional development opportunities and continued efforts in how we can scale and grow our team. We also use exit interviews with all outgoing employees to gain and gather more feedback. Great examples of how we've used employee feedback include the introduction of Paid Family Leave, increased PTO by milestone, standardized review and compensation processes and an employer-matched 401K program. Again, thank you for your note and we hope to continue the forward progress and momentum we've built, with your help.

Powering through growing pains for a great product

Pros

- product and engineering lead software team that is dynamic and innovative - the reach and impact of this product is making a difference nationwide - the people are talented and inspiring, which makes the culture supportive and open. Everyone helps everyone learn. - everyone works remotely but can look forward to an annual in person company retreat - senior leadership are conscious about scaling efforts and needs - benefits get incrementally better every year

Cons

- company goals and expectations are ambitious which can become overwhelming, expect to hit the ground running when you start - company size doubling every year so retention of current employees feels swept under the rug - PTO and sick time are only 120 hours for the entire year - senior leadership micromanages at every level instead of allowing middle management to develop their teams internally - internal promotions can take nearly a year to negotiate and don’t expect any pay increases or bonuses outside of promotions

Toxic and unprofessional

Pros

EdTech company with a valid purpose

Cons

Gross micromanagement, inexperienced leaders, and clueless about running a software organization. If they were willing to learn and grow that would be a good thing, but they think they know it all (and they don't)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, having a healthy and professional environment is a non negotiable for us--- as you well know, the Design team is a new team within a quickly growing company and we rely on the feedback and insight from our team to help us scale our processes and share your experiences (good, bad and ugly). I'd really like to encourage you to use the resources we have available (town halls, suggestion boxes, 1:1 meetings, etc) to give us the opportunity to work together in a productive manner as we are all on this journey together.
