Terrible management

Pros

Decent office, central location, free haircuts and salon products

Cons

Senior management are a team of micro-managing, unpleasant, insecure women, all from similar backgrounds, who exist to feed off their own echo chamber of similar (limited) world views. Not willing to listen to ideas which challenge their own in any way, give any real advice or manage their people in any constructive way. Ironically, the company talks often about how there is no place for unpleasantness and they are themselves as a family (most of these reviews are written by that team). It is the most toxic environment I’ve ever worked in, unsupportive and generally not somewhere where you can develop your career - or even where this is encouraged in any way. Senior management refer to themselves as the ‘big girls’, with everyone else being classified in a bracket insinuating they are little children.

Pros

- Free product - Free haircut and colour at the Hair Salon - Working from home

Cons

- Toxic, bullying and blaming culture. If you don’t agree to testing a new product you are bullied and peer pressured into testing it. - Micro managing with little room for creativity or freedom to suggest new ideas. I was made multiple promises about exciting job opportunities and career progression but none of which were true, even when it was included in my contract. - No HR person to hire talent and create a structure for the company. Being educated and trained in people management would go a long way. - Senior management fail to realise that we are in a cost of living crisis and people do not wish to spend a lot on shampoo and conditioner. Rather than blaming your staff you should analysis your market and the current climate we are living in and how the product/brand can be adapted to make it work. - No team morale. Each person is out for themselves and will take credit for your work. - Long hours, the contracted hours were 9-6pm but I was often working till 7pm on weekdays and catching up on the weekends. No time in lieu and working extra hours was taken for granted. - The positive 5 star reviews are written by the senior management because they have been peer pressured into doing so. - If you have a look at previous employees on LinkedIn you’ll notice that the majority don’t work for the company for very long. This is because they either make employees redundant or make the environment is so uncomfortable they end up leaving. I actively encourage new starters to take this as their red flag not to join this company or to look for something else. It isn’t obvious at first but once you’ve been there for a while you’ll see it for yourself.
