Pros

Amazing coworkers, patients, and families.

Cons

Positive Steps has an incredible amount of turn over. They tend to prey on new grads, pay them very little, and burn them out until they finally quit. I’ve witnessed coworkers spending their own money buying resources because the office had hardly any materials. Coworkers would stay an hour or more later each night finishing paperwork after a 10+ hour day. The company needs to train managers and have better hours and working conditions to keep quality therapists. Families have been fed up with the amount of turnover.

Pros

Supportive coworkers Great kids and families

Cons

This company burned me out to the point that I was physically, mentally, and emotionally unwell. You will work 10-11 hour days with no treatment planning time, have limited clinical support, and feel the need to provide many of your own supplies and/or equipment. Their entire focus is on money. Productivity expectations are through the roof, with limited documentation time. You are expected to complete documentation within sessions, which is inappropriate and often unsafe (therefore not possible). At times, your 30 mins of doc time is scheduled during a staff or departmental meeting. You have the option to skip the meetings, but will miss out on likely your only time to collaborate with other therapists. Mentorship is minimal to none, with no on-site mentorship available in some clinics. You are expected to flex your hours due to inclement weather, and the company has even “consulted the national weather service” to determine if closing the clinics would be appropriate during an active winter storm warning. In my VERY short time working there, I watched 9 clinicians come in after me and leave before me, all of which had more experience than me, and all of which cited poor work-life balance, insufficient upper management leadership, and insulting pay. The only consistent employee at my clinic was the manager, which tells you all you need to know. The families, and more importantly, the kids, are left with inconsistency and frequently comment on the high turnover rate. They are frustrated and many have left to follow therapists to other companies. Overall, this company has no regard for therapists well-being and values money over children and their families.
