I have been working at Poundland full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can have fun if you have a nice team of people, if you're lucky...

    Cons

Don't trust them when they promise things.
Cannot have a life outside work.
The word slavery comes to my mind. The company expects you to cover the lack of budget with management overtime(management overtime is not paid), and wages budgets are cut every year.
Will cancel your holidays whenever suits them.
Avoid using the name "Poundland" in your CV if you want to receive calls from other employers.
They never do what they promise.
Forget having 28 real days of holiday, you will be called or even you will be asked directly "to be available just in case you're needed".
If the store is lacking a management team because the company fails to provide it be ready to work 13 hours a day or 7 days.
Stores are horrible places to work in, my office is the size of a cleaning cupboard. Talking about cupboards, recently the company promised money to improve the back areas, I asked for an improvement of 50 pounds for the Staff Room and it was denied, something basic as a cupboard to keep all the kitchen utensils. So go back to my first point, never trust them when they promise things.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for you. I have wasted enough time forwarding all these issues but you only care about your sales, nothing else.

    Cons

They are not paying all the hours you work for, too much work, the worst customers poundland has it they can't find anything on the shelves even if it is in front of them i.e. full bay of batteries and they can't see it.

    Advice to Management

To pay the staff properly for all the hours they working,

    Pros

Staff friendly, nothing else I can think of

    Cons

Manager ran the store on the moto of " do as I say not as I do" you weren't allowed to ask questions on anything, you were expected to be a yes man. If you said anything that the manager didn't like he would swear at you and think this was totally acceptable, when complained higher was treated like a trouble causer.

    Advice to Management

Spend the time talking to staff not just management to see what is really going on behind the scenes
