I have been working at Poundland part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Store management is usually friendly and approachable.

Some stores are flexible, if you have family or study needs, you can work shift patterns to suit.

Good sense of team in some stores.

    Relatively varied workload and responsibilities.

Large company and still expanding, so there’s opportunities to move to stores almost anywhere.

    Cons

Dramatic shift of culture in some stores, over the past year or so.

Big cuts to store budgets take a toll on staff and store management.

Unrealistic targets and pressures coming from above, head office are not paying enough attention to business on the shop floor.

Not enough freedom given to store staff and management in how stores are run.

Huge shift to self service, even in peak times.

Little or no incentive to work hard or do your best.

    Advice to Management

Relax some of the targets, give more freedom to store management, recognise employee achievement.

    Pros

The best reason is that there isn't some serious math needed. Its all a pound so you can literally count the items and get your total.

    Cons

The quality of the customers are low, which is expected since it is a big discount store. So you will have a lot of people with attitude problems, messy, poor hygiene.

    Advice to Management

    Not much to say
