Pros

The work you do with clients can be extremely rewarding and the job also helps you grow as a person.

Cons

The way the company is run is completely unprofessional and to be honest the company is probably doomed. There is no transparency of expectations for management, only that you are taken for granted and the second you make a mistake, they make you feel like you are worthless and a complete moron, usually when you just did what they told you to do in the first place. They take a ton of shortcuts to get around regulations and actual policies but then pretend like they are a bunch of white knights. They choose favorites who they let get away with anything while they condemn those who speak up and actually aren't afraid to voice what they think is right. Staff get stuck on shifts a lot and if they get frustrated with this they are just told to suck it up. Managers end up covering endless shifts and then yelled at for having too much overtime, even though they are doing it so their staff don't quit. If staff quit, managers/others have to pick up more shifts because you can't legally leave a facility unattended, and then get yelled at for too much overtime. Management is criminally underpaid.

Pros

Working with the clients can be very fulfilling.

Cons

I’ve been employed at PLS for almost two years, and have coworkers that have been here even longer. I’ve been told by senior staff members that they haven’t been given a raise since they became a med monitor (I did not in fact get a raise for becoming a med monitor, however.) Recently everyone in the company, staff and management alike, had to fill out a self evaluation form. Some of us spent a long time on this because the cost of living is increasing dramatically, and the current wage just isn’t sustainable anymore. When the raises finally did come around, none of them even hit $0.50. To me and many others, this felt like a slap in the face. In order for me to have disposable income, I have to work OT. Staff and management alike have repeatedly spoken of the underpayment issue, but nothing has changed, and after this year I’m not sure it will. Additionally, corporate continues to open more houses that they don’t have the staff for under the assumption that the current staff members will pick up the slack. The DSPs are burnt out. The assistant managers are burnt out. The program managers are burnt out. The only reason I haven’t left is because I value my clients, but I don’t know how much longer sentimentality will win over financial stress. And onto the clients, because they aren’t much better off. Due to how understaffed we are, clients get very little community engagement because we simply don’t have the staff (or sometimes the vehicles) to take them. There’s been multiple instances where clients have even missed appointments because of this. I can honestly say that the vast majority of client behaviors would disappear under adequate staffing.

Pros

- Clients are typically nice - Staff is usually supportive - Some days are chill where you can finish homework or watch shows - If you like working OT, you can get plenty

Cons

- Some clients are aggressive, I was told by one that they wanted to r*pe/kill me - Pay is low and not competitive with similar companies, raises are rare - Horribly understaffed with high turnover, and if the next shift doesn’t show, you’re forced to work 15 hours straight - If you have a problem with your job, they’ll suggest moving you to a different location instead of fixing the issue
