I have been working at Red Hat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Open Source is a way of life for many of the people who work at Red Hat. Seems to be a real commitment to work-life balance.

    Cons

Lots of new people as we expand. Culture difficult to keep pure.

    Advice to Management

Encourage people to run Linux on their laptop. How are we supposed to convince people that Open Source is the way forward if they use Macs or Windows machines?

Sometimes it has a lot of admin work to do with a very little time, moreover the tools used for this it's old softwares which doesn't help to get the work done.

    Advice to Management

Management have been improved a lot in the pass years and they should just continuing in this path, listening to their own team.

I have been working at Red Hat full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Almost unlike any other company you've worked for before - in a GOOD way!

Very open and approachable CEO who takes the time to listen to the opinions of his employees, no matter at what level in the company

A true meritocracy, you're recognised and rewarded for your results

Talented and passionate colleagues committed to the principles of Open Source

    Cons

    Processes and systems still maturing

Can sometimes be slow to decide on a course of action as we tend towards wide consultation - although this can also lead to better decisions!

Not for you if you like rigid hierarchies!

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing!

I have been working at Red Hat (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Absolute commitment to Open Source and high ethical standards. Work from home. Opportunity to have an impact at global scale.

    Cons

Work from home is a lonely business and sometimes a bit stressing. Pay is not very competitive, but that's what you get by making stuff which is free.

I have been working at Red Hat full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some very smart and inspiring people from all around the world work here, and it is great to work and solve problems with them on software that helps drive so many businesses world wide.

Great flexibility working from home, and while spending time abroad.

    Cons

Hours can become very long due to not enough investment in having enough people. The flexible working hours go some way towards making up for that though.

    Advice to Management

Revisit the new salary adjustment criteria, and communicate big changes before they happen. This is supposed to be an open company.
