Pros

Some genuinely great people. Nice location, boot camp some afternoons. There were some nice team events. Great place to be when management is away. I'm really struggling t make up the 20 words here.

Cons

As the title implies, nothing is as it seems. So much felt false or untrue. In a desperate scramble to keep things going, management is prepared to say whatever is needed to staff, clients and whoever else.... Even if it is untrue and even if it goes directly against the advice from the staff who really do know. A lot of money was wasted on excessive trips, conferences, diners that directly benefited the CEO, not the company itself. Perhaps there is a bigger agenda... Culture is something that needs to be acted on by everyone, not just demanded by the CEO. People can't be bullied into having great culture. It just doesn't work! Probation periods are for both staff and management. No one is the perfect fit straight away. Feedback needs to be given in both directions so that teams grow together. Don't just make it a one sided affair and toward the end of probation let someone go because YOU haven't put the effort in.

Great idea but poorly managed

Pros

Great team of people who genuinely cared about the business and its success. Nice ping pong table and geographically well positioned in the CBD.

Cons

Product dose not do what the CEO says it does Poorly managed with little focus on the quality of the solution Development team put under huge pressure to produce outcomes with unrealistic time frames Culture is talked about a lot but in reality it is poor. Unless you agree with the CEO you are on the outer, lots of talk about "no sacred cows" but the reality is a different story Money is wasted on stupid things and the initial investment as been squandered on increasing the CEO's persona in the Start Up world Monday was always an exciting day as it meant a complete change in direction for the company

Pros

Potential to work with interesting technologies to solve real world problems. Some great and talented people have worked at RedEye but have all since left disillusioned with poor leadership and culture.

Cons

- Developers underpaid compared to market rates at other startups in Brisbane market. - Technical advice from dev team disrespected. Most often advice on scheduling/timelines for tasks completely ignored. - Senior management has no software experience and has shown complete lack of willingness to learn or accept advice from anyone. - Developers constantly 'crunched' for deadlines. - Management team constantly changing priorities chasing ideas they think are 'the next big thing' instead of tangible goals which would deliver client projects. - Poor culture. CEO in particular talks a lot about creating good culture but is actually the biggest destroyer of culture with his complete disrespect of employees. Often comes into the office yells for everyone to get into a circle and then talks at employees for an hour showing complete disrespect for the work employees are doing when he interrupts. - Very high employee burn rate for a period of 2 years now.
