NO work-life balance

Pros

good for entry level, decent compensation, perks offered but those take away from work-life balance so are not so much pros after all.

Cons

High turnover! Probably because of having ZERO work-life balance! Employees get no flexibility or understanding for life happening, yet are expected to be available 24/7 via phone app. Employer is constantly changing rules for time off and sick days, is obsessed with time in/out (to the minute). This micromanagement as if employees are little kids is suffocating.

Unexpected layoff and no work life balance

Pros

Senior people are willing to share their knowledge.

Cons

Unexpected layoff. Recently 10% of people were let go. Most of them have been working here for a long time(aka more than 10 years.) When you see the "reviews" that claim this is a company for people who want to develop a long term career, please also take this fact into account.

It is true that 4 people have been let go recently. However, it wasn’t unexpected to those individuals. Everyone who was let go, knew about his/her performance and/or motivation issues for a long time as they were clearly stated to them during multiple reviews and one-on-one conversations. Those individuals were given multiple chances, some were even put on probation before, but it didn’t lead to any significant improvement in their attitude and/or performance. The company does encourage employees to stay for a long term, however, building a career requires more than just working at the firm for a long time. The company is developing and we need employees to develop and grow with it. The company cultivates the environment that promotes professional growth, but not everyone can/want to change old habits and attitudes. Even though it may have been unexpected to the rest of team, it wouldn’t be fair to call the decision unjustified. Moreover, the reasons and motivation behind those personnel changes were clearly outlined at the meeting with the entire team. P.S. RiskVal management and HR welcomes all constructive criticism and suggestions, however, putting the number of let go personnel as 10% is inaccurate and deliberate misrepresentation of the situation given the size of the company.

Unfriendly culture, low pay, long hours

Pros

CEO creates a sense of community and is generally very effective in running the company. Three company outings per year.

Cons

9.5 - 10 hour workdays, also expected to be on call 24/7 to work with Taiwan staff if an issue occurs. Culture stifles collaboration if you're not cozy with the in-clique. No clear path to advancement presented. Vacation days taken away for lateness. Healthcare coverage is barebones Aetna OAEPO. Company policies are often pronounced by high management and walked back when called on at lower levels.

The company hours is 8am ~5pm, and deduct 1 hour lunch time, the expected working hours is around 8, also company DO NOT encourage overtime. I am not sure how do you work 9.5~10 hours. Each employee has a direct manager/leader, you should work closely with your manager to outline your career plan, but not expect someone to give you a career plan. Our vacation policy offer each employee 3 weeks paid vacation plus 5 paid sick days. If this is not enough for you, then you should seriously look for other company, as this is the best company can offer so far. At last company has anonymous suggestion box in Zen room, I don't think this is the best place express your suggestions and complains.
