Pros

- The HR team and their initiatives are one of the best things about the company. - Good culture and life / work balance. - Lots of projects to work and get yourself into. - Good and friendly environment...

Cons

... until it's not. First of all, most of positive reviews here are from trainees or summer of code interns. The reality for full time hires is quite different. Let's start with payment and salary, which is average for brazilian employees but very low for global employees. The revisions are almost non existent. The stock benefit is not immediate. To fully vest the stocks you have, you need to work in RC at least 3 years. Back to the core issue of Rocket.Chat: Its "founder" members. With the exception of Gabriel, the CEO, the rest of them (which are most of the directors and managers) live in some kind of delusional fantasy that they are some kind of brazilian Silicon Valley geniuses (spoiler: they are not) and everything is fine until you start to make questions and intend to make changes to the core processes of the company. If you cross one of these founders, you will be marked, and all the good vibes and culture of the company disappears. Ironically, they hired a lot of people to change the company for the better, in a lot of different new and enhanced processes: Agile, Scrum, QA, PM, PO, etc... but the reality is that most of the company is absolutely reluctant to change.

Thank you for your feedback! We're really proud of our culture and of the work our People team has been developing! Although scaling our company brings challenges, we're working hard to implement the necessary processes and improvements for our growth, investment and development of our team! We appreciate your transparency and we also want to be open to work on the points you approached, so please feel free to reach out to Gabriel Engel or anyone from our People team to describe the issues you faced so we can further understand the points you brought!

Pros

Good benefits and compensation package for new employees Rocket.Chat is open for changing areas and roles 100% remote work Freedom to work from anywhere

Cons

Organisation is becoming highly political, bureocratic, and revenue-centric. You must be friends with high executives and/or board to get benefits. Several new employees follow the above described culture. They don't work well in teams and are focused in getting their own results and responsabilities, they doesn't care with consequences to other people. Unfortunately organisation's culture is not reflecting it's values on the website anymore. New employees have better compensation package and visibility then current and old employees. Doesn't seem meritocratic.

Pros

When you start working here you know that you're working with a great project. The fact of working with many technologies (Electron, Java, Swift, Kotlin, Javascript, Go, ReactNative and so on) plus repositories with hundreds and even thousands of stars sound fascinating!
Rocket.Chat is the leading open source team communication platform build from great people that work with big challenges day by day.
The summit every year and the Paid-Time-Off are the company's differentials too.

Cons

Despite the leading open source team communication platform status, you'll feel sometimes working with an immature project. The lack of software documentation is frustrating! Any day you'll need to look inside the code of the core product to understand how a function/endpoint works - even if you don't understand that technology (and don't wait for people helping you there all the time). You'll need to work with the project that you is paid for and with other project that isn't part of your contract when you started here. The big pain is the salary. You'll earn less than the average! You'll work a lot (and most of the time under pressure). People won't respect your out of service time. Don't expect to earn more even when working for a long time here or by doing a good job.
