I have been working at Royal Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic investment in training. High level of responsibility from an early age. Truly unique job opportunities. Possibilities to travel the world. Adventurous training and team building weeks. Potential to climb the ranks quickly.

    Cons

Assignments not necessarily relative to job experience or qualficiations. You aren't a specialist, more like a generalist. Pension and allowances aren't comparable to private sector.

    Pros

Excellent training, instant responsibility combined with worldwide travel and variety in your roles (you will have 3 very different roles in your first 5 years, possibly in 3+ different locations). Financial/ professional equality between sexes (pay bands fixed to rank and seniority. Fringe benefits include medical/dental, cheap accommodation, sport and adventurous training free.

    Cons

Constantly moving. High workload and opportunity for promotion can be cyclical.

I worked at Royal Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Adventurous training, meeting like minded people, travelling the world, Pay is just enough to keep you in, but doesn't compare with contractor wages.

    Cons

Micro management, Decisions cannot/will not be made by low/middle management everyone seeks ''one up'' approval before anything happens, even day to day things.
    Benefits slowly being eroded.

    Advice to Management

Give NCO's their responsibility back, stop reducing adventure training funding, retain technical trades rather than contract out any new equipment.
