A solid career, but not what it once was.

      Pros

Initial salary is good but quickly overtaken by industry in comparable jobs. Pension is non contributory and still relatively good. Free gyms and adventurous training are great opportunities.

      Cons

Some of the positives posed by the recruitment team definitely aren't. The food quality on bases is on a steep decline after contractor led changes. Accommodation is poor but gradually getting better. Long hours and deployments. Promotion can be unfair to some and dependant on the ability of your 1up to write a report rather than performance.

      Pros

Some of the best training you're likely to receive in this industry. A chance to travel to some brilliant places. Plenty of opportunities for Adventurous training and other non work related activities.

      Cons

You don't always get to travel to the best places. The RAF is slowly dying and I've felt that in my last couple of years in. There are far too many people in positions of power that still think it's the 80's or 90's and are standing in the way of progress because 'it wasn't like this when I joined up'! Some of the places you can posted are pretty terrible and not worth your effort.

      Pros

-Meeting some of the best people. -Cheap accommodation and food. -Job security. -Learning Opportunities. -Free gym and sport. -FAM. -Pension. -FHTB.

      Cons

-Some bases still have really poor accommodation. -Food is hit and miss in messes. -Promotion is a lottery. -Months away at a time (everyone is different) I personally don't mind it, but it seems to be a common one, especially for families. -Hard to settle down.
