I have been working at Royal Air Force full-time

    Pros

Variation of employment, travel and early responsibility (especially for commissioned officer cadre). Despite most external perceptions, shouting and marching are not a part of day-to-day life! Fantastic camaraderie and a feeling of working for an outcome far more important than the financial bottom line

    Cons

Sometimes highly demanding in terms of time and commitment. Although it's rare, you can be sent to dangerous places at extremely short notice. You also need to come to terms with the fact that part of the RAF's role is ultimately to break things and kill people.

Current Employee - Survival Equipment Fitter in King's Lynn, England

I have been working at Royal Air Force full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay is quite good for the amount of work that you do and the pension is still probably one of the best in the country. Some financial packages are available for education within certain criteria. Medical and dental is provided free.

    Cons

Some sacrifices have to be made! Long periods away from home with sometimes sub standard accommodation, Promotion is limited to every 3 years, and isn't necessarily based on merit, Some promotions only have a slight increase in pay for much more responsibility and/or an increased rate for long deployments.
