I worked at SRG full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

SRG Birmingham is a amazing place to work, I worked here for over 3 years with the team. James is a exceptional manager who goes above and beyond. The team are experts in their fields. There is good work life balance and its a comfortable environment to work. I've never had any issues working here. Good location with lots of parking and food places nearby! Dress down Fridays too!

    Cons

NONE - I've had no issues

I worked at SRG full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    * The Birmingham office was alot of fun and had a great environment, they made me feel so welcome in their team, I have kept in touch with a few members. * The office manager is lovely and is very supportive. * Flexible working hours. * Relaxed dress code. * The training provided is excellent and I learnt alot.

    Cons

    * I was misled when I applied for the role alot of what the internal recruiter told me was not the chase. * If you end up going to a client visit or travel for work and get delayed / have to work over time there was no time given back. * Limited rewards. * The upper management are quite difficult to communicate with they can be quite patronising and condescending at times. * There are some people in the company that are obsessed with money and will walk all over you and practically steal your commission at any opportunity. Luckily there weren't any like this at the Birmingham office however I was burned by a senior member of another office and I was told similar stories by my colleagues. * Basic pay isn't great and the commission structure is unfair at times by the way it is structured which most of the company complained about.

    SRG Response

    Kelly Morton

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of working with SRG. I am pleased to hear you experienced a great working environment and learned a lot during your time with us. I was surprised to hear your ‘cons’ feedback as it goes against our culture of openness and honesty. I believe in fostering a culture of responsibility where people are treated fairly and empowered in their role, hence why we have flexible working practices across the business, which I am pleased you benefited from. I appreciate the importance of recognition and reward and whilst we may not always get things right, recognition is a key priority across SRG and we have many programmes in place that regularly reward and recognise people from across the business in many different ways. Examples would be time off to spend with the family, spot prizes, quarterly events, annual company conference, team budgets for local incentives and our prestigious annual High Flyers trip. I feel it is important to recognise all staff fairly, from support staff through to sales and recruiters, for the great work they do. I will discuss your feedback with the SRG SLT to ensure consistency is being applied to all divisions. Please feel free to contact me directly should you want to discuss any specific feedback relating to your concerns. Kelly.

I have been working at SRG full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good bonus potential and degree of flexibility (appointments etc.)

    Cons

Very uneven starting salaries for people with the same qualifications and at same level- actually quite shocked hen hearing the differences in what people have been offered in the past. Feel like MD picks and chooses who to speak to, dont think there is a genuine interest in a lot of the employees- at least it feels that way. In some cases high performing employees are allowed to say and act unprofessionally within office - perhaps favouritism. Incentives can be good but they are few are far between- when looking at other recruitment companies they seem to reward their employees a lot more to be honest

    SRG Response

    Kelly Morton

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on SRG. I take all reviews very seriously as I care passionately about SRG and its people. Fairness and people being heard are very important to me and, as I am unaware of any significant variations in pay for the same role, I would certainly encourage you to speak to your Manager, Michelle Clare or myself about your concerns. Due to the many SRG locations it can be difficult to spend time with everyone. It was for this reason why initiatives such as the employee Think Tank were created: so that I can dedicate time to listen to, and take action on, the ideas, thoughts and concerns of people from across the business. If you have any concerns you would like to discuss, I would encourage you to raise them internally with anyone you feel comfortable talking to, including myself, so that they can be addressed. Thank you Kelly

I have been working at SRG full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good support provided both before, during and after placement

    Cons

Messed myself and my colleagues around a lot with entitled holiday. Different people seemed to get different amounts, and it was a very confusing system. They spent ages developing ages developing an online portal, which once released, barely even did anything anyway.

I have been working at SRG full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They value their employees, focusing on managing individuals to unlock their potential. The business as a whole has evolved significantly during my time here to become one that focuses on the future potential of the business and the employees. They have invested significantly in their training programme (for all levels but with a focus on improving the skills of their managers) to ensure they give their staff all the tools they need. If you work hard, you will be rewarded for it - if you're interested in a job where you can plod along this isn't the right business for you. If you are willing to be transparent with the business about what you want to achieve from your career they will help you to get there, career opportunities are essentially limitless as long as you have the plans and the ability to back up your ambition. As much as it's quite a big business with lots of offices there is quite a family-feel to the business. You're encouraged to make connections with individuals in different parts of the business/offices to support you in your role. There is quite a bit of social activity if you want to get involved. We don't have to do any of our own compliance/finance/dealing with pay queries! We have a back office team who deal with temp/contractor queries, a compliance team and a full finance division who deal with all invoicing and credit control. This was all put in place to make sure consultants can focus on the billing activities, not all recruitment businesses have this so worth pointing out! They have put in place flexible working and encourage individuals to have a work/life balance but this has to be led by the employee, if you need certain requirements you need to let the business know. Loads of opportunities to get involved in charitable work - we have a charity team who organise group events, you get a paid day off a year to do charity work and if you do a charitable event you will often get your fundraising matched by the company. Also they have just put in place additional holiday days for long-standing employees so you can get up to 29 days holiday (including your birthday off) before bank holidays are added in! Getting an additional day per year you work at the business (kick in after your second year).

    Cons

The steady plodders aren't rewarded anywhere near as much as the high performers - this is in an effort to push people's performance but means some are left feeling under appreciated. Can be very quick to role out new initiatives, can often lead to a bit of confusion or lack of focus in the business. Development and career opportunities can vary dependent on who your manager is - sometimes a lack of consistency across the business with development plans for individuals.

I have been working at SRG full-time for less than a year

    Pros

SRG is part of a group of recruitment brands, Impellam, which makes it incredibly stable. It has a 60% market share and a great name in the market, which makes it an easy sell even if you're going into a new desk. There is a decent level of flexibility on fees and being able to negotiate. They support a Mental Health charity called MIND and this really, really shows trickling down into the culture. So many recruitment agencies are a churn and burn, but you genuinely feel like the managers care about their people. Not a "clock watch" place at all, I'm at the mercy of public transport to get into work and am quite frequently a wee bit late, and my manager genuinely isn't fussed as she knows I'll get my job done. It's unreal being able to be treated like an adult. A lot of places if they say "flexible working" they mean you can work 7-7 and occasionally do this from home, but here it's about being present for most of a clients core hours, getting your work done, delivering results and working smart. No point sitting at your desk to make a call in the evening to a candidate when you can do it from home, and you're allowed to do it.

    Cons

Commission structure is a bit vague, and really benefits high earners. Steady billers might be a bit frustrated.
