Pros

No pros for this company.

Cons

Nepotism, unqualified leadership, profit-obsessed. The company wants to go public, and have been told they need to increase their profits for this. They do this through continually putting more pressure on staff to perform unrealistic KPIs while heavily underpaying them for the industry, it's barely livable. They heavily reward salespeople with bonuses, while barely granting commission for staff in other areas of the business. They throw international trips for "high-performers", and throw all-inclusive quarterly parties for all of the Australian staff, including flying Sydney and Melbourne staff to Brisbane. It's like an '80's cliche of a 'work-hard-play-hard' office. They churn and burn through skilled talent, constantly burning people out and cutting them off. Maybe if they spent less money on booze and flying salespeople to idealistic international holiday destinations, they'd have better profits, and even be able to pay a decent wage.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. The characterisations and allegations in this review are serious. While I won’t engage in debating individual claims or internal matters in a public forum, I do want to address a few points for anyone reading. Scout Talent does not create or encourage fake reviews, and we expect feedback shared on platforms like Glassdoor to reflect genuine individual experiences — positive, negative, or mixed. We also take our obligations to clients and the security of their data extremely seriously and operate with clear governance and accountability in those areas. We recognise that our environment is fast-paced and that the expectations in some roles can be demanding, particularly in the early stages. That intensity will suit some people more than others, and it’s important that candidates have open conversations during the hiring process about workload, expectations, and ways of working. Our aim is always to maintain a professional, respectful workplace where people are supported to succeed. Where experiences differ from that expectation, we reflect on the feedback and continue working to strengthen leadership capability, communication, and clarity across the business. I wish the reviewer well in their next chapter. Andrea CEO, Scout Talent

Pros

Excellent reward and recognition for effort . You get out what you put in, with uncapped earning potential. Very talented colleagues provide support across all departments Every day brings variety and is never boring. Provided you maintain a required level of activity, you can choose your own adventure, concentrating on industries/roles that you may have a passion or natural attraction for, then mix things up and diversify to keep your interest up. It's very rewarding work when you help clients achieve success in growing their workforce, through your efforts, strongly supported by relevant specialists and teams. Good prospects to move sideways or upwards, to gain experience and grow your skill-set in other departments.

Cons

The base salary is relatively low but good commission is there for the taking. It's up to you. Whilst the first 12 mths can be challenging, as you build your client base, strong sales skills, and perhaps some financial backing, will help you through the early days. It's not an easy role, but would you really want easy? There are challenging times to get through, to reach your potential and forecasts so it takes persistence and endurance, that will not suit everybody. The sales role doesn't suit those who are uncomfortable speaking with all levels of management or who lack confidence in oral and written skills but good communicators, who love 'talking the talk' will thrive. Whilst strong teamwork exists, you need to also be able to work independently, be self-motivating and just get on with it. Don't take a prospect's rejection personally as some are open to assistance and others are not...move on from a 'no' to the next 'yes'!

Thanks for sharing your thoughtful and practical perspective - especially given you're someone with long-standing experience in the business. You've captured the reality of our sales environment well: it's demanding, varied, and very rewarding for people who enjoy autonomy, momentum, and the satisfaction of helping clients grow. The balance between independence and strong cross-team support is something we work hard to maintain, and I'm pleased to see that reflected here. You're also right that the role isn’t easy, particularly in the early stages. We’re upfront that success requires resilience, strong communication skills, and consistency - and that it won’t suit everyone. For those who do lean in, the opportunity to build deep capability, strong relationships, and meaningful earning potential is real. Thank you as well for the suggestion around salary packaging. I'll take this on board and ask someone in our team to look into options. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and for the contribution you continue to make at STG. - Andrea, CEO
