Bad people do bad things

Pros

Easy product to get to grips with.

Cons

Management flat out refuse to see the problems. You will see this here. Each time a negative review appears there's a wave of positives that land as the SMT scramble to get people who haven't yet said nice things about the business and CEO to say nice things in order to pretend everything is OK. It's not. CEO has no idea what he's doing or how to affect change. Management scramble around blindly trying to figure out what they can do to make sure they're in his good graces because there is no actual plan in place, just a lot of buzz words and team talks like he's on Friday Night Lights. As you can see from the 5 star propaganda that comes in each time someone has the audacity to hold the mirror up, anything that resembles the truth is not welcome. Everything is great and going in the right direction. If you believe otherwise then you're "not a good fit" or "not good enough" and are promptly dealt with. There are a lot of good people here but because they're surrounded by so many toxic sycophants they don't know how to find and support each other which leaves them pretty isolated. People are promoted based on popularity rather than ability which creates departments that are led by those who simply do not have a clue what they are doing, are too egotistical to ask for guidance, and too arrogant to listen even if it's offered.

Circus run by a clown CEO

Pros

Great product, flexibility to work from home

Cons

There is not one ounce of honesty in the organization. The CEO will tell you that people have left the organization because they weren't good enough but the actual truth is that everyone leaves him and the awful culture he creates, condones and promotes. It has been stated in other reviews that he is highly emotional, doesn't know how to run a business, gets people working on random vanity projects, he has no leadership skills guidance or business knowledge to actually run a business. In the last few years, he just comes on all hands calls talking about growth rate but he has no idea how to actually run a business and deliver that. He hired a terrible COO who was a bully and made everyones lives miserable with no actual sales experience leading to a failed quarter after quarter. The engineering team have no idea whats going on. Success are blamed for ridiculous levels of churn and he just demands it is fixed without wanting to understanding it. 2 HR leaders have left and now we have someone who is drowning and out of her depth so doesn't know how to handle all the chaos. A company trip doesn't mask all of it.

A tired management team that wants to exit

Pros

Decent product with a solid product and engineering team.

Cons

Over the past 18 months, the company has gone through almost quarterly pivots, none of which were given sufficient time to yield results before being discarded for the next idea. This instability has been accompanied by a revolving door of employees, particularly on the sales team. There's a pervasive sense that everyone is replaceable, which has done little to boost morale or inspire confidence. The CEO has been largely absent, only making appearances for his monthly “motivational” speeches at all-hands. When he does get involved, it tends to make matters worse. For instance, after finding fault with the sales demo process, a new one was implemented, bizarrely involving DJ mixing equipment. The result was a process so convoluted it involved more steps and software than launching a satellite. To his credit, the CEO eventually realised the importance of product training—unfortunately, this epiphany came six months after a large group of salespeople had already been hired. How so many new hires were brought on board without proper training in place is beyond me. Later, he discovered that inbound leads were being neglected and that there might actually be business opportunities among them—another rather basic oversight. A strong sales leader could have pushed back against these misguided strategies and implemented a sound plan from the outset. Unfortunately the CEO hired a former consultant masquerading as a sales leader (with the title of COO), who not only lacked sales leadership experience but had never been a salesperson. What could possibly go wrong? Answer: Everything. His "leadership" felt insincere and robotic, probably because was relying on ChatGPT for ideas. Worse still, his sales clichés were delivered in the patronising manner of someone whose primary skills were confidence and managing upwards. While incompetence is one thing, his toxic and overly aggressive behaviour further eroded the office culture, causing many to go out of their way to avoid him. His presence was a blight on our workplace, and it was disheartening that it took the CEO 16 months to realise this and take action. Perhaps if we had a proper Board, the CEO would have been forced to act sooner. Make no mistake, this is a tired and frustrated leadership team looking for a way to sell up and move on. Unfortunately, growth is slowing in our highly competitive, niche market, making it difficult to find a buyer. In the meantime, the circus continues...

ScreenCloud Response

Hi there, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We take all feedback seriously, and your detailed insights are highly valuable to us as we strive to improve. Firstly, we’re glad to hear that you recognise the strength of our product and engineering team. They are the backbone of what we do, a fantastic team and it’s great to hear that this is recognised across the company! You're right that ScreenCloud has had to be agile whilst navigating a tricky, competitive and growing market. That has led to some changes internally and we appreciate that this has had an impact upon team stability and team morale, which we're working hard to address. Our leadership team has spoken about this on multiple occasions in All-Hands, and we've reduced changing priorities and goals as much as possible over the last few months so hopefully that concern will soon be one of the past. Our CEO, whilst not always present in the London office, has been active in leading our first ever customer conference, attending multiple customer site visits, visiting all of our offices this year, and still takes time to meet each new starter. All of that said, we'll take your comments on board and continue to work on improving this, and communication with all teams. The feedback on our former sales leadership and the impact is especially concerning and through recent leadership changes, we are actively working to rebuild trust and foster a positive, supportive work environment. Our onboarding processes have changed entirely in the past few months to make sure new employees receive the training and support they need from day one, and we've held our hands up that this hasn't been good enough in the past. We also want to reassure you that our leadership team is committed to the long-term success of ScreenCloud and they are not looking for a quick exit. Our focus remains on building a sustainable business that everyone can be proud of. If you have any more thoughts or would like to discuss your concerns further, we encourage you to reach out to HR or any member of the leadership team directly.
