Pros

The product idea is interesting, but many other defense companies are way ahead. Nothing “special” about the product.

Cons

Before coming here I read a lot of negative reviews and decided to ignore them thinking they were most biased reviews from a small few of disgruntled employees. But now I realize that’s 99% of the employee base. Biggest mistake of my life was coming to this company. The executives use patriotism as an excuse to treat employees like poorly. The middle managers are lying out of their teeth to save their own careers, but lack the technical competence to manage. The product is is decades behind other industry leaders, even China. The organizational technical architecture is terrible, some of the worst I’ve seen in many years. The culture has some real issues; horribly toxic for a working woman. If you have kids you won’t have any time to spend 10 minutes with your kids or bring parents to hospital. You record your timed on 15 minute increments, and the executives have asked teams doing 80 hour a week should be upped to 100 hours a week on average. And please note - any feedback you provide will be held against you on future reviews, even if they “say” it’s anonymous. They are actively using polls to try and weed out all the people who are posting negative reviews on indeed and blind, don’t be fooled. HR is also extremely unhelpful for almost any issue I have brought up to them.

Pros

Great people to work with. The teams are fantastic. The tech is great. The technical vision is fantastic.

Cons

Senior leadership hasn't figured out how to deal with people yet. They do underhanded things to reduce the employee benefits (like 401k match reduction) at the same time as asking for 50-55 hour weeks from the teams. They told us that if we work less than 45 hours we will be fired. Now they will be lucky if enough people stay to deliver.

Pros

Building UAV drones looks and sounds awesome. The VBAT is a tech marvel that is changing the world for the better. UAV's and drones have always been a passion of mine and it was so cool having a career in a field I was passionate about and seeing VBAT grow from humble beginnings.

Cons

From less than 50 employees when I joined, the company had a scrappy can do attitude and accomplished amazing feats with minimal resources. Now to close to 600 employees, Shield AI is now a corporate being, wealthy yes, but plagued with slow moving processes, endless meetings and almost nothing gets done. Management feels like they have a target on their back so they push their employees hard. This is enforced with mandatory 50hr workweek minimums with no overtime but a vague threat that time cards will be reviewed in performance evaluations. Management pushes unreasonable timelines crammed with useless feature additions that suck time and detract from the end result. Brining up or pushing back on the point that that what is being asked is pushing the project backwards gets you labeled as combative. I was told that my boss is right, even when he is not right, he is your boss, end of story. We had provided lunches at one point but they got taken away.
