A costly middleman

Pros

Simplicity has Enterprise & Strategic level clients with whom their consultants are deployed. This allows consultants to get hands-on experience with this client base which spans various sectors.

Cons

TLDR: The benefit of Simplicity as a consulting firm just isn't there. They take a large margin and give little in return. Once the firm matches you with a client you have only two recurring touchpoints with your employer: 1. Monthly company-wide meetings where leadership hypes up the same empty sentiments about why Simplicity is so great. 2. Occasional meetings with your CSM. There are/were no meaningful professional development resources, and the CSMs are so disengaged to almost forget renewals. Lastly, their compensation negotiation is shady. The consultants are the last to be involved and often days before a contract is supposed to be signed leaving us stuck with too little pay and no time to negotiate. While there is no explicit mention of what margin Simplicity takes the % I understood them to take is entirely unjustified for what little value they provide.

Pros

The health care is good as is the unlimited PTO as long as your client is flexible. Simplicity definitely tries to build culture and do have some consultants that have been there a number of years. There are monthly calls that sometimes have breakout sessions to get to know the other consultants. If you are looking to drop into a staff augmentation or replacement role, they are good for this.

Cons

Consultants are more or less on their own and employed for as long as your project lasts. Under those conditions it really is not easy to build a company culture especially when you are let go if a project does not renew. There is no bench...your benefits end. The company/employee relationship feels transactional. There is very little contact between Simplicity consultants even if you are in the same organization. Because Simplicity hires only to the individual project, there is very little commitment to training, mentoring or skill building. As a company, it seems to me that you would want to attract, hire and retain.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Our staff remains focused on delivering support, value, and advocacy to our consultant community. We have several teams working collaboratively on our client’s businesses, and for our individual projects, we strive to meet the unique needs of every consultant. While some of our consultants really enjoy working autonomously on their projects, others, like yourself, are wanting more of a traditional employment structure. As we continue to grow, we are investing in additional resources (i.e., client success managers, talent matchmakers, business operations, engagement and more), while maintaining the attributes that make this new world of work so appealing (flexibility, adaptability, autonomy). Thank you again for your feedback. We look forward to delivering an even greater experience to you on your next project with us!
