      Small company that punches far above it’s weight

      Pros

      High impact - small company working for some of the world’s largest tech companies and providing input to their strategic planning Great people - one of the friendliest and most helpful teams I’ve ever come across Very remote friendly - employees in multiple timezones and a lot of asynchronous workflows, but also make a big effort to use video chat and include everyone in celebrations and team building activities

      Cons

      Tendency to be permanently over-stretched. Always trying to do more than the team really has capacity for. It’s difficult to say no to interesting projects / products for high profile clients. If you like a challenge it’s very rewarding to deliver such a volume of work successfully, but it’s not easy to sustain long term. Frequent tweaking of the company strategy can be frustrating.

Indeed, we assume all the team is distributed, and rely on online tools rather than the odd "water cooler conversation" between people that happen to be in the office to ensure communication flows smoothly. I hear you about the stress of taking on ambitious projects for high profile clients in the past and stretching the team. Not sure when you worked at /Data. In 2019 our priorities are based on a 100% top-down goal setting, starting from 3-year goals (reviewed annually) to 1-year goals, 1 year strategic priorities and 3 month goals down to each individual team member. Goals are agreed with each person every 3 months and so it's up to each individual to be accountable for their goals.       Great processes to manage remote work. Interesting tasks. Friendly and knowledgable team who are always willing to help.

      Pros

      This company is one of the best I've worked for. There is a flexible attitude, but it is still highly can-do, and nobody drifts or slacks off. It's relaxed because people know and trust each other to do a good job, to work hard, and to be themselves. If someone is ill, everyone is concerned, if someone does something great, everyone celebrates. It's a truly supportive team, and it performs great because of it.

      Cons

      Sometimes there is overload and if I cannot meet all the deadlines, I feel bad for letting the team down, but there is never blame levelled at me. Remote workers have to balance personal time as there is sometimes out of hours working requested for meetings.

      This is music to my ears :) Team culture is as important as our impact to the world, and I 'm pleased to hear our work on building a solid culture is paying dividends. We are at the same time accountable professionals as we are people, family members, mums or dads, community members, etc, and so we strive to reflect both our get-stuff-done mindset as well as human nature in our team culture.
