I worked at Sobeys part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was a grocery clerk for almost 5 years until i went off to school, it was a great highschool job to have to make some money, i also got trained to work in the garden centre every summer and to work on cash when it got busier in the store, just be open to learning new things. I learned how to deal with all kinds of customers even the grumpy ones(which was fun at times). Hours were nice and set the same every week but if i needed time off my boss was happy to give it to me and anyone else that asked. Made some good friends and learned a lot about the grocery retail business and the sobeys franchise itself. If i had stayed any longer i would have been an M.I.C. but school was my next interest.

    Cons

Cant think of any, i had a great experience. Other than dealing with rude customers or people that liked to eat the food and leave the wrappers lying around, plus cleaning up the messes that customers made, but you get used to it tbh

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and people you get to work with are half decent, and the benefits are okay. Not bad to work there.

    Cons

No room for development and not a solid career choice more for people who plan on not doing anything career wise and like simple easy work.

    Advice to Management

    Be more attentive....

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If it’s a unionized store then eventually the pay is quite good but you will have very few hours until you’re needed and that’s hard to predict usually

    Cons

Too many to properly detail, but, management on all ends seem to enjoy a good brown noser and the company seems to be in a long term “self sabotage” mode in order to deunionize the stores. All this is being done in order to create a desire for their best most loyal workers to quit by ensuring that the workplace conditions are bad enough to drive their top staff out or even just take a badly needed break from the toxicity via some drama free unemployment. In the meantime the company seeks clueless high schoolers with no relevant job experience or expectations to fill the store and hopefully do some work but who generally doesn’t require more than minimum wage as they’re not independent of mom and dad just yet and just want some money for their next vanity purchase.

    Advice to Management

Quality over quantity in terms of staffing. Hire those who genuinely care about customer service and come in ready to work- even better if they have their own stash of reliably safe amphetamines. And keep the place up to speed in terms of ergonomics and upgrades/repairs so those who work there don’t necessarily have to slowly but surely kill them selves for the rare and mythical “living wage”. Maybe a staff discount? Shows appreciation, builds morale....

    Pros

friendly staff and managers, flexible hours, small pay increases. made the experience good by finding friends in my co workers and talked to customers

    Cons

a lot of pressure at times, low wages, too much responsibility with not enough benefits for what is asked. sometimes managers were not lenient

    Advice to Management

more open and talkative to cashiers and supervisors in order to work better as a team. better wages for work being done
