    Pros

    - amazing new state of the art building
    - friendly people
    - great co-workers
    - Sobeys Urban fresh located in cafeteria
    - chefs make you meals all day!

    Cons

There really arnt too many cons to note of, I would say salary and benefits could definitely be approved upon. Gym in the new building could have been better. Bonus's dependent on company performance.

    Advice to Management

Please look into being more competitive with wages.

Too many employees abuse the power of union

Need more labor, more work than people in the store

I worked at Sobeys part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Good hours
    -Excellent manager
    -Flexible scheduling
    -Consistent shifts
    -Positive atmosphere
-Easy to move between departments if desired
-Easy to book time off for vacation

    Cons

Overall, senior management was out of touch with the customers and employees experience. In fact, I personally know an ex-head office employee who resigned because things were becoming far too corporate oriented. Thrifty's was supposed to be a community force with a family-like feel but has become more like Safeway and other chains.

    Advice to Management

People in my local community noticed a definite change in tone when Sobeys acquired Thrifty Foods. I'd recommend giving more autonomy back to the stores with less centralization and top-down decisions by head office.

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun Place to work, good crew

    Cons

Not valued by the company, demand alot of physical work, tight time constraints for barely over min wage. Great for high school but not adults on their own. Tooo many high paid managers not training the staff properly and night staff has to clean up the mess. Can work here but cannot afford to shop there. No discounts, four limited specific item coupons given out once a month. No one uses them. They are a joke.

    Advice to Management

Put all new staff on nights at least once so they can be trained properly and not constantly make the same lazy mistakes because they are stressed during the day and not prepared.

I worked at Sobeys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Generally a good work environment. Union was good to work with also! Good job teamsters 987

    Cons

HR is only company minded. When you leave Sobeys they won't give a reference.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach!! Fairness is for everyone not just hand picked employees.

I have been working at Sobeys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard working and talented employees have good growth prospects. The work culture is good. Sobeys offers good salaries and benefits

    Cons

Over the last two years there has been a consistent change in the organisational structure and internal movement of the employees, They have been struggling ever since taking over Safeway's western Canada operations.

    Advice to Management

The organisational structure needs to be leaner. We need lees of the VPs, AVPs and Directors and more of the operational staff who will actually do the work

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people i work with are really nice, for night shifts it's mostly just other students/people my age. The manager is pretty chill and really accommodating with hours. There's free wifi which is nice since sometimes it gets really slow.

    Cons

It's minimum wage without increases so it the best pay. The work is pretty repetitive and boring, but it's simple, what you'd expect.
