Pros

Certification teams are full of great people.

Cons

The pay is terrible in the business side of the company. They do not care about their staff and how overworked, underpaid and stressed most of the certification teams are. Their diversity and inclusion work is performative and offensive. CEO is out of touch.

Pros

Great colleagues at lower level

Cons

Poor pay, Treated badly, upper management are aloof and dismissive of anyone who dares to speak up No room for progression, you will need to change companies to get anywhere Upper management are out of touch and have no clue what is going on in the day to day business. They claim to be progressive but this is a facade designed to lure in young bright employees Poor business model, witnessed management turn a blind eye when proven to be operating at a loss. They have no idea how to value an employee so their employee retention is terrible The only way to move up is to be there longer than anyone else (how most of upper management are in their positions) High turnover because they also refuse to pay staff fairly, certification staff have high pressure roles.

Pros

Working for Soil Association Certofication means learning the complex process of organic certification and dealing on a daily basis with businesses (either producers or processors in the food&drink, cosmetic, textile or forestry industries) who operate or are willing to operate as organic. The team at Soil is mainly made of people who are passionate about environment, food and sustainability. It's a great, friendly and supportive environment where a thorough understanding of the organic sector can be gradually developed.

Cons

Soil Association Certification is an auxiliary of Soil Association charity. Despite the fact that certification work falls much more inside the area of business services, and the amount of specialist knowledge needed to assist businesses with their requests is pretty high and needs contant updates, the salary paid for the role is definitely more in line with general charity work.
