I worked at SoundCloud full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Innovative work environment. Lot's of highly skilled people who are happy to share and learn together.

    Cons

Terrible track record with middle and upper management. High percentage of people in positions of power were first-timers. Very real world experience or maturity in the leadership; resulting in competition within the company rather than externally. Lot's of posturing and land-grabbing.

    Advice to Management

You should have sold to Google in 2012.

    Pros

    Learning from talented people
    Free food
    Nice office

    Cons

Company politics: ambitious people building power bases and fighting each other instead of the competition. I hear it got better since the layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Stop mollycoddling the employees; you're not in Silicon Valley

    Pros

The people make this company great to work at. Everyone is passionate about what they do and are easy to connect with. There's a lot of opportunity to grow here and learn new skills. The current direction is exciting and doing well under Kerry Trainer.

    Cons

Management is changing a lot, and you are in a developing company pushing harder than their resources available.

I worked at SoundCloud full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good location and nice office with free snacks and food twice per week.
    - Known company, interesting business.
    - Unique and interesting problems to solve.
    - There are some really great and smart people, who cares.
    - SAT and learn budget.

    Cons

    - No clear strategy. Once you started to make a new feature, management changes their plans.
    - Disconnected management on all levels. Sometimes 10 people solve one problem.
    - You need to play games, politics, solve tickets but not problems, be the loudest person in the room to be promoted.
    - Bureaucratic - small problems take months to be resolved.
    - Toxic environment, very unpleasant (and illegal) situations just ignored.
    - Encouragement of unethical solutions on the product to have more profit.

    Advice to Management

    - Change company values.
    - Let people do their work.
    - Go downstairs and talk to people.

I have been working at SoundCloud full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great work culture that emphasizes work-life balance, cultural diversity, and recognition for top performance
    - The product is awesome and employees are super passionate about it
    - Engineering has solid technical talent and all the teams have passionate, caring, and intelligent people that act as great co-workers
    - New management has a clear strategic direction and is extremely transparent

    Cons

    - The 2017 layoffs negatively affected work culture and workspace, but it's rebounded to a normal place again
    - Salary and compensation is market average, company is willing to pay more for C-level executives than recruiting top, new talent (a strategy I disagree with)

    Advice to Management

    - Keep being transparent with a clear strategic vision and don't get veered off-course by high-effort but low-impact projects
    - Pay more for better inbound technical and non-technical talent into the company, as this is the key to increasing product value in the future

Step back and let people do what they are there for.
