Great company to work for

Pros

Many long time employees that are knowledgeable and helpful. Generous owners that offer fair pay, bonuses and raises...also offer college scholarships to employees kids. Executive team is smart, approachable and fair. Remote work is nice, too!

Cons

Medical insurance (but that pretty much sucks no matter where you work nowadays). Communication seems to suffer at times but I think this is a result of the newly adopted remote work paradigm and will probably improve over time.

Pros

Very generous company. Knowledgeable employees that are fun to work with. Steiner invests in it's own success and employees benefit from this investment. Only worked there 1 yr and have seen significant investments in facilities, equipment, software, personnel and training.

Cons

In my position, the biggest con is also the biggest pro...my position is remote and my company and I are in different parts of the country. While I LOVE working remote, I also love popping into people's offices and picking their brain. It's harder to do that remotely.

Positive changes leading to positive culture and strong future

Pros

Many exciting changes are happening at Steiner. The current CEO and leadership team are moving fast to create a culture where people can work together and be directly involved in changing the company. Over the years the company has changed a lot to stay current which is important if you're going to stay in business for over 100 years. Some people don't like change leading to some frustration but the company tries to bring people along with them and does it best to do the right thing. Steiner is an organization that cares about its employees and continues to move forward.

Cons

Rapid change can be a positive but also a negative for those who are uncomfortable. Health insurance is expensive. 401k match could be better.

Pros

Allows the employee to work from home. Some middle managers are very good and understand the team concept. There are some favored employees that put on the fake "show me" act and think they are above others.

Cons

Upper management rewards for employees based on favoritism instead of overall contributions to the bottom line. Lower rate of pay than national average. Family owned-company that needs to think more about how to reward good employees and less about favoritism.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback regarding your employment experience at Steiner. I’m sorry to hear your concerns regarding favoritism and the competitiveness of our compensation and benefits program. In staying true to our company values, it’s important to us that our employees feel appreciated and treated fairly and equitably. We have a strong belief in open communication with employees and take feedback very seriously. As a result, we continue to make improvements and additional investments into our total rewards and recognition programs. We've launched a number of new benefits aimed at assisting employees with their total wellbeing through various lifestyle benefit programs, some of which include discounts at area businesses, virtual fitness benefits programs, a lifestyle spending reimbursement program and several others all funded and paid 100% by Steiner. Additionally, we have launched an expansive development program through Steiner U to develop people's professional and technical skills and prepare them for career growth. Regarding compensation, we have partnered with three outside firms that benchmark our compensation programs against national, regional and state/city benchmarks in and outside of our industry to ensure we provide a competitive total compensation and benefits package to members of the Steiner Team. Providing our team with an engaging and positive experience is one of our top priorities and we continue to take actions to ensure that exists. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you further, so that I may better understand your experience and how we can continue to improve. Most employees are wonderful, management is too slow to change

Pros

Most of the employees were wonderful to work with. Most embraced the "family owned" culture. Some, however, are way too slow to change with the times and were allowed to drag their feet by management. Some employees are allowed to treat others with such open hostility and disdain, it's truly mind blowing. Personal and professional training, when offered and followed through on, was very helpful.

Cons

Salary, obviously. The low salary was worth the stability and the few team oriented co-workers. Hypocritical management: Holding certain employees in certain department to certain standards while others are allowed to do whatever they want is very demoralizing and doesn't work when you're trying to create a team oriented atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It is a top priority at Steiner to exemplify our core values: customer focus, accountability, unified & knowledgeable team, uncompromising integrity, and safety. At Steiner, we do not accept poor behavior towards our employees or those we do business. You mentioned in your review above that "some employees are allowed to treat others with such open hostility and disdain" which is a situation that we do not take lightly. To keep employees accountable for their actions, we ask for your help in reporting this to Human Resources so we can address them immediately. We believe that every team member should be treated how we would want to be treated in return. As a family-owned business for 104 years, we try to put our best foot forward and balance a team-oriented atmosphere where employees can thrive while supporting the needs of our customers. In addition to creating a balanced environment that encourages growth and new opportunities, we are grateful to learn from your review that the personal and professional training offered at Steiner was positive for your career growth. As well as the many employees who you considered to be enjoyable to work alongside and collaborate with.
