Run, don’t walk away from here

Pros

There used to be a strong group of intelligent analysts who would help you get smarter about the world.

Cons

This is one of the most poorly run companies I’ve ever encountered. Management, when not fighting decade-old petty turf wars amongst themselves pass the time by thinking of new cruelties to administer to unwitting underlings. Seniority doesn’t come from topic expertise, experience, or growth; rather, how far you’ll go to stain your nose a permanent shade of brown. Pay is poor. Management and mentor ship is worse. Job prospects upon leaving are difficult. What we thought we did and what clients want in the real of geopolitical risk are two very different things. Stratfor now fills a roll of “infotainment”—regurgitating faster and increasingly better takes from competitors or news outlets and trying to package them to a shrinking client base. There’s no real HR, which is good for management. This is one of the most toxic, racist, homophobic, backwards institutions you’ll ever come across. Most of the analysts now have never even stepped foot into the countries they cover or claim to be experts in. Please take a note that it’s PR, and not any HR, that’s doing outreach to the honest reviews on here. Anyone looking to work here should count the number of CEOs that have been at the helm in the past 5 years, or spend some time looking around on Linkedin at how many former long-standing employees have also left during this time period. Then, look up the current batch of VPs and senior analysts. How many have 0 real world job experience outside of Stratfor? It’s a sinking ship bleeding intellectual expertise and money. The exceedingly positive reviews are also obviously false. There are almost no middle of the road reviews. That should be telling enough, of a company using a PR hire to massage and create fake reviews rather than hiring HR and removing toxic leadership to salvage its talent pool. But hey, who even knows what geopolitics means? It’s a company built on making your oafish uncle or globally-minded neckbeards feel more confident in mansplaining Brexit to you.

Squandered potential.

Pros

It's a paycheck. Nice offices. Good people. Intelligent co-workers who work hard. Casual work environment. Good happy hours for the stream of employees who leave.

Cons

The company has been taken over by venture capitalists and at this point they're putting lipstick on a pig. Trying to polish the surface with a new website while starving the content creators. Truly talented analysts are gone, save a few. I'd be surprised if the place isn't closed in 18 months.

An exciting transition to the Angie's List of Risk

Pros

If you thrive on financial instability and career stagnation, this place is the right one for you.

Cons

The new bosses have come in swinging hard, but with the accuracy of someone blind and decrepit. Unfortunately, this new RANE acquisition has underscored just how many suckers there are in this world with deep enough pockets but zero strategy for moving forward. This RANE company that bought into Stratfor is simply an Angie's List for Risk and they have no clue what they're doing. Best of luck.
