Good and exciting at the beginning but turned into a bad experience at the end
Pros
- Good handling for benefits and HR paperwork. - Some people have a good vibe and influence a good culture spirit, unfortunately sometimes managers abuse the concept to their benefits. - There is a good learning curve and exposure to good technologies. - Flexibility to cross function between different teams. - Great colleagues. - Sticking to their promise there is a raise rounds every 6 months.
Cons
I was part of the "Tech" team so here is a breakdown of things i have encountered during my journey at Taager. - There no work/ life balance at all, I still can feel how stupid i was to try to achieve this and i was blaming myself for it. - Management team specially engineering managers have a good set of skills but i was getting tons mixed signals all the time. - You might find yourself in the middle of the old school tale where a team member being competitive in unhealthy and passive aggressive way to take over. - I can recall my first time having a friendly conversation with one of the "leadership" team and mentioning some habits in previous manager that i didn't like that he asked, and ironically they after 8 months they did these annoying habits and even worse. - Your direct manager can take up to 3 days to reply to your messages even if it's important matter and the if you going to request one of the "unlimited vacations" they won't reply until the vacation day passes. - Messed up deadlines to the point i have been involved in a project while i was in a vacation my estimates wasn't considered. - Once when we were pressured to quickly release a feature because it will save the company "millions" when we demoed the initial version to stakeholders they were so rude and snapped without considering the sacrifices in time to make it happen, When this was communicated they preferred to not put their ego aside and apologize instead, they sent a generic "good work" messages, and this was an enough red flag. Even when i told my manager about how bad was this behavior, Shockingly they tried to justify the rude attitude by all means and yet not apologize for how humiliating it was. - Fake motivational speeches to justify for overload and the startup culture. - My direct manager kept pointing at how great my salary and how great i did with salary negotiations and they can't believe they agreed to this, in a way that make you feel guilty about it. - Lack of organization and proper execution specially from the product managers side, they keep pushing for features that didn't go through a proper planning and without notice, they request sudden requirements that can screw your whole work and their elaboration when i provided this feedback was "you basically describing all startups". - It's a pure family business originally since the beginning when it has grown more family members joined, i witnessed bunch of relatives jump from department to another that has completely different backgrounds, no matter how they try to prove the opposite, it's a pure family business with an Egyptian twist (if you know what i mean)
