Pros

The development groups outside of San Diego are great and know their stuff, and are largely left alone by the toxic nature of the San Diego development group.

Cons

Tapestry is actually comprised of 4 different companies that were consolidated through purchases by Boeing. The legacy company is located in San Diego and has been merged with a troubled company while the other remote offices have been largely left as is. The tapestry legacy company has largely given up after the forced purchase of a failing company and that failing company's culture has taken over the San Diego group. A large portion of the tapestry leadership was replaced with these executives and/or Boeing shills. Most of the legacy employees either have already left or are planning on leaving. The failing software group is reluctant to change and are they still learning how to do basic things such as how to commit code and come up with basic QA controls. The company claims the have been doing this for 20 years but is still working through procedures that startups solve their first year. The technical leadership in the group is detached and doesn't understand their product and customers. Much of their decisions seem to be driven off of the latest fad technologies and not off of a real need for those technologies. Developers are constantly talked down to, lectured, and thrown under the bus when executing ill conceived ideas given to them by the technical leadership. Unfortunately if anyone offers an alternative opinion to what is being promoted , their reputation will be destroyed and they find that you are no longer included in any technical discussions. Most of the technical group has left for other opportunities because of the poor treatment and lack of proper leadership. Program management is concerned only about schedule, even if that means delivering a non working product and/or one that does not meet the requirements of their customers. This has led to a lot of quality issues which will cost double the original development costs to fix. They claim they are interested in changing, but when it comes down to execution they fail miserably. Since the last acquisition, raises and bonuses are non existent. The bonus and compensation structures are built based upon unrealistic long range business plans made up by a business development group that doesn't even understand what they are selling. The company makes employees feel as if it is their fault that they are not meeting these goals which leads to even worse morale.
