Honesty is key, and I believe in keeping it 100%. As a newer company, Tend has endless opportunities for growth. However, with growth comes change, and at every phase, adjustments are necessary to meet the company's evolving needs. Change often means losing people—sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse—but ultimately, it’s like a game of Tetris, where the pieces need to align to keep the momentum going.
One of the most challenging aspects of change is transitioning leadership. Building trust and proving your capabilities all over again can be difficult, especially if you were on a clear and strong path with your previous leader. Change in systems and actions also adds pressure, especially when it comes to retention. People respond differently to change—some are analytical, some thrive on routine, and others resist it entirely. Finding the balance to build retention while navigating these differences is complex, especially when the expectation is that we all work together to succeed. The truth is, change affects people in different ways.
This isn’t unique to Tend—it happens in every company. However, I’d rather go through it here, where there’s a clear investment in results and a commitment to growth. Grinding through the challenges is worth it because the pros outweigh the cons. As an optimist, I believe that if you have strong work ethics and strive to be a winner, every door is an opportunity waiting to be opened. At the end of the day, we are the business.
