I worked at The Mill full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Ability to work with some of the top people in the business. The general output of work is excellent. - Equipment is state-of-the-art.

    Cons

    - Low pay. - Ridiculous hours (night shifts, occasional 24 hour shifts, etc) that could be avoided if the workload was arranged more efficiently from the top down. - Past experience isn't valued. You have a degree, can use Avid and After Effects? Doesn't matter, we'll promote the guy who's ten years younger and has no experience because his "face fits" more. It gets a bit grating when that happens three times.... If upward mobility exists it is based on very nebulous and arbitrary factors (though that is par for the course in the world of London post production and not exclusive to the Mill). - The kiss-up-and-kick-down principle is lived to the full here. Low level staff are generally treated with disdain by the upper tiers. That said, this place was manna from heaven compared to some of the other post houses I worked at; at least no-one ever shouted at me. And some of the Flame work they did was quite pleasant to look at. So, two out of five.

    Advice to Management

Treat low- to mid level staff with more dignity. Also, consider paying salaries that are more appropriate for a crazy-expensive city like London.
