      TranscribeMe Response

      Recruitment Coordinator

I'm sorry that you feel that it's not worth the effort. Did you try to join the special teams, like First Draft, QuickStep, and TME Special Styles? The general pool usually works as an introductory level, so that workers can become familiar with the style guide and TranscribeMe's workflows in general. As such, the pay is less than the pay for other teams and projects. However, the idea is for transcribers not to stay in the general pool, but to advance and have access to different file types and pay rates. Many people who are on higher level teams feel that it's worth the effort to move up and continue working. As for jobs not always being available, TranscribeMe depends on its clients to send work in, so how much work is available at a time is not entirely in our hands. Again, there is normally a greater amount of available work if you move past the general pool.

Low Pay, Bad for Mental Health

      Jul 2, 2021 - Transcriptionist

      Pros

If you have 10-12 hours a day to give to transcription, you might make a decent living.

      Cons

My experience has made my mental health worse. My therapist agrees that this is a toxic company. The pay is awful. Transcriptionists do the hardest work but only receive a fraction of what's brought in for a job. (On a good day, I make roughly 28% of what a client pays for the service.) I do not make a living wage. The staff (TMs) are rude on Yammer. If you have an opinion they disagree with, they will gang up on you about it. Several members agree that toxic positivity is practiced. If you're not praising the company, they don't want to hear it. Review policies have no rhyme or reason. It could take a week; could take a month. No one will communicate anything about this to you, even if you ask questions. I never walk away from a day of transcribing without feeling depressed and angry with myself, that I've given so much time to this company for so little in return.

      Pros

Own hours. Fun and challenging environment. Work can be a bit slow at times but it's interesting and if you are willing to put in the time it can be rewarding

      Cons

Low pay for the amount of hours you put in. Not viable as full time income. No benefits for the amount of work you do. Hard to find audios

      Pros

-onboarding is easy with clear instructions and a community help site -you choose how much time you put into it -you can work from anywhere

      Cons

-pay is extremely low per hour - $25/AUDIO hour translates to roughly somewhere around $5 per hour -if you aren't detail-oriented or a fairly good typist, try something else -some files take quite a bit longer to transcribe, some less

Equal opportunity company with decent compensation for entry level transcriptionists.

      Pros

Great company culture. Freedom to work from anywhere and anytime you want. Great earning potential for transcriptionists on special teams, QAs, and reviewers.

      Cons

The testing modules could use some adjustments. A rubric of sorts would go a long way.
