I have been working at Travis Perkins full-time

    Pros

A wealth of experience to be gained in a broad and interesting environment.

Offers great prospects if you are in the right tech and role.

    Cons

Huge disparity in salaries, little scope to improve them once you are in.

Long term chaos due to a constant churn of senior IT staff members (6 or 7 CIOs in as many years) and the implementation of a huge IT transformation project, whilst re-divisionalising, marketising and outsourcing IT services.

    Advice to Management

It is probably too late to rescue the morale of the current IT department but some stability must be attained soon.

I have been working at Travis Perkins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not many. The company does have scale and the Screwfix part of the business does does work well. You can enjoy some reasonable staff discounts. There are some very capable people in the business.

    Cons

The business presents strong corporate beliefs, but lives none of them, you are expected to work very hard and long hours, with limited gratitude. Travis Perkins has become to big and complex with very limited investment, so many of the sites are run down and the IT systems are 20/30 years out of date. When I joined I was given a laptop that must have been 10 years old and did not work, it took weeks to replace..

It is a very male dominated environment with little diversity and females in senior roles are very limited, much to the determent to the business. It looks and feels like an out of date boys club
I would not recommend TP as an employer.

    Advice to Management

Update the business, invest in systems and people and focus on diversity, I see a lot of good people come and go very quickly, you need to retain talent.
