Well-organized and established, yet constantly moving forward

Pros

Very well-organized and friendly management and employees. Continuously strive to become better by expanding geographically but also from a products and services point of view. Business initiatives are well communicated and, overall, transparency is very important to the company. Workplace initiatives taken by TM actually come across as genuine concern for employees' health and happiness.

Cons

Name change and acquisitions in recent years means the company is not necessarily immediately recognized in Europe and further explanation (to potential clients., other stakeholders) is always required

Pros

decent work/life balance. I barely work over 45 hrs a week, which is surprising in the consulting world. Decent healthcare benefits.

Cons

Now, either these positive reviews are either fake reviews written by the company's recruiters to entice prospective candidates or I really have the misfortune of working in what I would consider the most dysfunctional department ever. And here is why: 1. The proprietary software we use are outdated, unreliable and the slowest products ever. Be prepared to pull out your hair or take aspirin on a daily basis to deal with it. 2. Poor communication and low morale. I can't say if this is company wide but my department is a complete mess. Several of my co-workers are clearly overworked and stressed and the result of this leads to people genuinely looking and sounding miserable. This leads to people pushing off tasks to other people, and the vicious cycle continues. 3. Little direction in projects and assignments. I worked in the consulting world for a long time now and I understand that there will always be ambiguity with projects. But here, you feel like you're on a boat with only a life vest to save yourself. 4. Little growth. I realized that there's not much you can gain from this position to make yourself marketable in the long run. The longer you stay, the more likely you will be stuck here because you will have likely forgotten how to use more commonly used statistical software. 5. Constant company wide meetings that have little to do with your daily tasks. These are targeted to make you learn more about all their products (many of which are not applicable to you) and how to be a better employees. I gain nothing from them and these are time eaters that we are obliged to participate in multiple times every week. 7. Poor compensation. The salary is on the far lower end of the spectrum in the private sector consulting world. If I could go back in time, I would have vehemently told myself to not accept this position. It's not worth the headache and stress. "The grass is not always greener on the other side."

There are some smart folks here. The _really_ smart people left, though, even if they cared about the business.

3 yr employee. In my opinion, there is no way that the recent spate of high-star reviews are real. Why would I say this? -The company has had almost monthly cuts and layoffs for over a year. Major cuts to development in Q4 seems to be a trend. Oh and just google "IBM Watson Layoffs" for the May 2018 news about massive cuts. -The subject matter experts that know how the 'product' works left ages ago. As a result, the company is down to one or no knowledge-holder for many core components of the software that drives their service-based business. -About the service-based: it is very obvious this is a _service_-oriented company, product management ("Offering Management in IBM-speak") was completely gutted by flight or firings years ago, and the service teams have been just doing whatever random stuff they wanted with the tools available since then. -IBM just had massive layoffs in Watson Health which Truven leadership insists do not affect Truven's team, products, or delivery of new initiatives. Despite the fact that pretty much everything for 2018 is now Red for delivery status, and management has been working for weeks to determine impact and produce new timelines, they haven't been able to do so. There are "position openings" but external hires are not permitted, they will be filled by transfers from other IBM divisions or hirings from IBM-India. There is really no future for this company, IBM spent billions for a company that only has earnings in the millions. The internal feeling is that they bought Truven for the 30-odd years of client data archives, and really do not want nor care about the business itself.
