Terrible culture

Pros

Good pay and free fruit in the office

Cons

I found the culture in the UK team shocking, with frequent verbal aggression from UK leadership - I witnessed colleagues being yelled at, insulted, and sworn at by senior leaders, to their faces and behind their backs, and witnessed multiple colleagues crying at various points in time. Many employees left around the same time I did - I believe this was a result of the terrible atmosphere in the office. Personally, I suffered an enormous hit to my professional confidence, which still affects me over a year later. I knew it was time to leave when the people in my life started pointing out I wasn’t my happy, upbeat self anymore. I went into the role optimistic and excited to make a difference at a young, innovative company, and I came out doubting myself, feeling dejected and let down by the people who let the poor behaviour go unchecked. I do believe this is unique to the London team - have heard great things from the Canada and Australia teams in particular.

Going downhill fast

Pros

A genuinely good product that works well.

Cons

Leadership is desperate to grow at any cost to finally go public. The cost in this case is people's jobs, benefits, perks, culture and morale. After a round of cutting benefits and perks, there was a massive round of layoffs. Just a matter of time until the next one so jump ship while you a can. Stay away if you can.

Pros

- Real opportunity to carry out impactful work that will affect Turo for years to come. This is particularly true considering the early stage of the UK business. - Steep learning curve - Approachable execs who are extremely transparent about their future plans and strategy - Intelligent and friendly colleagues - Strong salary w/ equity - Health and dental insurance - Company-wide meet-ups every six months where we get flown out to the US to meet with the rest of the company

Cons

The fact I had to stop and think about whether there were any cons is a testament to the fantastic job senior management have done to create the working environment I find myself in. If I'm scraping the barrel, my holiday allowance is lower than my friends who work in other companies but, frankly, I couldn't care less because when I'm not on holiday I truly look forward to coming into the office and building out the UK business.
