Management Out of Touch

Pros

Ignoring management, the employees you work with on a daily basis are enjoyable.

Cons

Management does not care about employees and makes that known. CEO is out of touch with reality and what employees actually think. Essentially anything he wants happens regardless of input from other employees. In office requirement allows no flexibility. CEO gets weekly attendance to ensure you came in or had an excused absence like we are back in HS. Management is so out of touch, they thought it was a good idea to lay off 17 people on Monday due to "cost cutting" and then throw a open bar happy hour for anyone that survived on Tuesday. Company does not have a vision for the future and just wants to do anything that might get some $ in the door, even if that means promising products that are currently not even possible with the platform.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I can certainly understand the frustration related to the people reorganization. These situations are extraordinarily difficult no matter the underlying reasons, and I am deeply sorry for every person and position at the company that was impacted. I sincerely thank you for your contribution to the company, and I am sorry that you had a negative experience. In regards to UPshow’s remote work policy, the company has and will continue to conduct formal surveys with the broader team seeking feedback about the desired split between remote and in-person/in-office work time. Based on that direct employee feedback is how we landed on the current policy - which provides the Chicago team living within 50 miles of the office the flexibility to work remotely 3 days per week and be in-person at the office 2 days per week. UPshow’s work plan allows the team to continue building relationships with one another. Having strong relationships at work means that the company can build a more meaningful culture and grow trust, appreciation and care for one another. Interacting and connecting with team members in this way is something we hoped that all employees will value, but again I apologize that this plan did not meet your satisfaction. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to survey the team to understand what type of work arrangements are optimal for productivity, team member collaboration and fostering continued growth of the company culture. I’m disappointed that we failed to do a good job at conveying the company’s mission and vision based on your feedback. I would welcome the opportunity to chat with you offline about instances where customer relationships and/or new product initiatives did not adhere to company ideals or support the company vision. UPshow highly values its vision and purpose, and we strive to communicate them to employees on a regular basis. UPshow’s technology helps brands achieve complete on-premise digital transformation. Our product offerings motivate customers/employees and inspire new behaviors that lead to superior operating results. Everything that UPshow does in terms of launching new products, offerings and features should have a strong impact on this vision. Based on your feedback we should always be open to honing and improving our discipline to match the company’s vision and purpose.

Lies, Deception and Cold-Hearted "Leaders"

Pros

The salary was good. That is until I did my bosses job for free for 3 months and they eliminated me in a reorganization.

Cons

Where do I begin? If you're a job seeker, run. If you're a customer or potential customer, also run. I've never spoken negatively online about a past employer, but the public deserves to know what kind of people are behind UPshow - cold, unethical, conniving, the list goes on. The CEO, Adam Hirsen, eliminated the positions of several people in a reorganization and I was impacted. But he had his co-founder, Matt Gibbs, and HR do the dirty work. I'll outlined how they did it and you'll get a complete picture of who UPshow is behind the curtain. Matt texted me on my personal cellphone last night under the guise that our CTO needed the login information for our social media accounts to do an integration. I asked if it could wait until first thing Monday morning and he said that the CTO really needs it before 6:30am because that's the time his work day starts. Trusting his word, I logged in late Sunday night to send the CTO that information. Simple enough, right? Wrong. I woke up to having no access to those social media accounts. Matt lied. They knew what was coming and lied to me to gain access and switch the passwords last night. Then an email came through this morning AFTER getting multiple emails about my access being revoked, one platform by one, to different work tools. That email was several paragraphs of BS from Adam about a reorganization. I say it's BS because no real details of the 'why' behind the reorg were shared. He coldly stated that if we get an email with a calendar invite for a conversation this morning, that means our position was impacted. One by one, my coworkers and I each ended up getting that calendar invite. On the call were Matt Gibbs and HR. No Adam in sight. How cold and cowardly can one be? They said positions are terminated effective immediately. And we'll only get our severance package once we return the company equipment. The severance package is TWO WEEKS worth of pay. TWO WEEKS! It's a slap in the face. Matt's performance was ridiculous - he really tried to fake empathy. Obviously I saw right through it. I told them how it's also absurd that a promotion and raise were dangled in front of me for MONTHS after I was successfully doing my ex-bosses job for three months after she left. I can only assume they knew what was coming. I saved them so much money and ran the entire social media and content practice myself. For what? Only to be screwed in the end. I'm happy to no longer work for a company that continually lied to its employees for months saying that fundraising was going well only to use their lack of financial stability as the reason for the reorg and cutting several positions across departments. Please do not trust this company or its leadership

Don't waste your talent there

Pros

The employees rowing the boat can be great.

Cons

There is a significant problem with the leadership at this company. The CEO is completely unhinged, lacks strategic vision and does not care about employees. Anything he wants will happen regardless of data or feedback. No one wanted the hybrid work policy, but the CEO did...so guess what happened? RIP flexible work schedule. There's a mentality that if the CEO can't see you in person, you aren't working or doing a good job. Funny when half the team is in another country. No amount of bad free lunches, ice cream socials, happy hours when people get let go and other forced activities will make up for the way the back to office policy was handled. I've never worked for an organization that so blatantly had interoffice politics at play. If you aren't an UPshow lifer, you will be treated very differently and your opportunity to advance within the company will suffer. There is also no diversity within the company whatsoever. The benefits are not great. The product is mediocre at best, but leadership doesn't want their egos hurt to admit the issues and fix them. If you value your work and consider yourself a decent human I would avoid working here at all costs. It can be hard interviewing and you always think people are scorned who write reviews, but trust what you are hearing and read between the lines. You'll be glad you did.
