I have been working at Victoria's Secret part-time

    Pros

decent pay, discounted underwear, friendly supportive co-workers

    Cons

As a sale assosiate you have a 4 hour contract but expect to work a lot of shifts! one week I worked 6 9-hour shifts!

    Commission is a bit misleading

You can not balance this job with full time education

    Advice to Management

be upfront about how the commission works and also how many days/hours a week you are expecting.

I have been working at Victoria's Secret part-time

    Pros

    •Great discount (30%)
•Gratis can often mean you get really good offers like matching underwear sets for £10
    •Reasonable pay for retail
•Most of the staff are co-operative and easy to get along with
•Very sales based, you’re constantly striving to achieve goals and colleagues are good at giving you feedback
    • Always busy so it’s never boring
•Flexibility to do lots of different roles (stockroom, cash wrap, selling, fitting rooms)

    Cons

•A lot more stressful than other retail jobs
•Managers have very clear favourites who are treated a lot better and get away with more (eg swapping shifts or not being able to do days)
•Schedule is posted only a couple of days in advance sometimes
•Your available hours and the hours you’ve asked to do get ignored and you are very often scheduled for days you can’t do or a lot more hours than you’ve asked for
•Managers seem to ignore the fact you have a life outside of work especially when this is only a part time job

    Advice to Management

Be more organised with scheduling and give people the hours/days they’ve asked for

I worked at Victoria's Secret part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent team. Incredible products, quality products that are easy to sell. Good commission scheme if you hit targets.

    Cons

Targets can sometimes be set high considering time of year and expectations. I had some issues with management

    Advice to Management

Consider reasonable targets for number of staff members in the store in comparison to the number of customers actually buying. Pressure sometimes got a bit much and managers did not handle it well.

I worked at Victoria's Secret full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. Good staff benefits. Lovely brand.

    Cons

Too stressful for what it is.

Management was awful: they were terrible at taking responsibility for anything that went wrong in store. It felt very much like being at school, and management thought they could talk to and treat associates in a demeaning manner. There was absolutely no integrity and many associates were reduced to tears for the way management have treated them.

There is lack of training by management when new staff joins the team. Very often, new associates were being informally trained by former associates rather than management and were often unaware of what they were required to do in their job role. In addition to this, there was a high lack of communication from management quite often, and many staff was not shown how to access holiday allowance.

Our schedules were rarely given to us a month in advance. We would usually get them a few days before the week started so we were unable to plan anything.

    Advice to Management

I advise you to be honest with staff. Have some integrity and act like "all in we win" as this message is not portrayed through this store at all. You need to recognize people's achievements and hard work and focus less on yourselves and help people to enjoy the workplace. Treat people like employees and reinforce that they are at work and not a school.

I worked at Victoria's Secret full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive salaries & good discount.
    Stores are pretty
Good commission if you work hard
A few very nice genuine people
    Nice products

    Cons

Long working hours & bad work life balance.
    Everyone stressed and over worked.
You’re either loved or hated. Leadership all in each other’s pockets.
    Underhand practices.
They seem to hire and fire willy nilly.
I was warned of the culture before I started but it was worse than I could of imagined. The best way to describe it is a ‘Mean Girls’ style culture, made up of cliques with very senior people involved.
Senior people calling other management the C word behind their backs, then being nice to their face. A regular occurrence, disgusting and uncomfortable.
For its size, it isnt very diverse. Especially at the head office, all white people which is odd for London.

    Advice to Management

Maybe it’s time for someone to hit the restart button. Replace some of the high school bullies currently running the company as it is a really horrible place. Never experienced anything like it and hope I never do again. There are some lovely and talented people in there.
Repeatedly calling yourself the ‘worlds sexiest brand’ and ‘a great place to work’ doesn’t make it true. This brand is mutton dressed as lamb.

I worked at Victoria's Secret full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good commission and lovely people to work with

    Cons

No work life balance, very poor management who showed favouritism and based progression on who they liked that day and not on performance. You are expected to hound customers as soon as they walk through the door and unless you eat sleep and breath bras you will always be doing something wrong. Nothing will ever be good enough for management and they will take any opportunity to bring you down. A cult of an organisation.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your staff and offer more opportunities to people who work hard rather than people you prefer as friends.

    Pros

    Your employee discount
    Clothing discount

    Cons

Part time contracts are offered at 4 hours a week, but pressured into working 40 hours a week.
Communication breakdown between management and sales associates.
    Uncomfortable atmosphere to work in.
I feel as though management are under a lot of pressure hence this is reflected towards shopfloor staff.
Lack of training, expected to complete specific jobs by watching a slideshow for 10 minutes.
