Set up for Failure

Pros

Having access to a large amount of funding provides unique opportunities to experiment and test. Working with some of the brightest people is the best thing about Visible.

Cons

You name a characteristic of a toxic work environment, we’ve got it- siloed decision making, impossible goals, no enthusiasm, and transparency as a core value in name only. Executive leadership provides minimal vision and direction, spending their time peacocking and fighting for status and visibility to Verizon leadership. Leadership is not approachable and feedback receives lip service. Visible is meant to behave like a startup, however, this is not the case as Visible becomes Verizon more and more every day. Unobtainable goals are forced down from above which are consistently missed. How long can a company survive like this?

Circling the drain

Pros

Visible has some incredible people and the employee benefits from Verizon are good.

Cons

Don’t let the smiley emoticon fool you, the happiness at Visible is fake. The company is a mess right now and some people are beginning to look for the exits. Visible says it values transparency, yet, everything is shrouded in secrecy. Adding to that, politics and lack of clarity make working here challenging. The only disruption happening at Visible is the deterioration of employee morale. The “CEO” who’s been here for about year hasn’t accomplished much when you look at the results. Under his leadership, toxicity has grown, there is zero focus, and plenty of “is this for real?!” moments happen. In addition to running around in circles, a stubborn and out-of-touch c-grade Verizon engineering team in another state wields too much control and continues to disappoint everyone. Finally, No Slack and a Gmail only solution (with no integration to mail apps) makes working here a drag too.

Pros

I would say the only pro for Visible is that there’s some great and fun people that work there.

Cons

Your experience at Visible will highly depend on who your manager is. There are few managers that really care for your growth and experience at Visible but there are many that do a subpar job at managing. This trickles down from the executive level but overall the middle management at Visible is horrendous. I can only truly speak to the manager that I had but most of the management is similar. My manager was extremely rude to me and other individuals around Visible. She was an extreme micromanager to where if she saw you having conversations with other managers, peers or really anyone that works at Visible she always needed to know what the conversation was about. She has zero understanding of what her employees’ roles are and the scope of work that they do which leads to demanding and short deadlines for most projects. She prioritizes projects based on her own needs and not necessarily company needs. Overall, just really unprofessional how she treats and speaks to her employees that report to her. Employees will share management concerns to HR or higher up management but nothing gets done about the issues. If you are interviewing with Visible, I highly suggest understanding who you will be reporting to and understanding the type of manager they are. If Visible is one of multiple companies you are receiving offers from, I would recommend taking another job opportunity elsewhere. The culture is very poor. It isn’t a team culture but more of a blame game and point the finger type of culture. Many employees are promised certain opportunities during the interview process which they never see or get the opportunity to do once employed. Visible executives and management speak a lot about Visible’s core values but can’t even put the core values into practice themselves on a daily basis.
