Toxic culture overshadows good pay and perks
Pros
Good pay and staff perks
Cons
apetito pride themselves on making a real difference but a huge amount of this is just for show on social media, the reality is, they have created a toxic culture where they expect you to go above and beyond for the company because they are ‘doing the right thing’, there is an expectation to work way past your allocated hours with a workload that is completely unattainable, by the end of my time at apetito I was running on empty and it severely affected both my mental and physical health. I voiced how I felt to my manager and was told that that was an expectation of someone working at a senior level and if I couldn’t cope then maybe this was not the right place for me. In terms of professional development they invest heavily in those on the graduate scheme. They love to post about the success of employees that started on the scheme and soared through the ranks to seniority, this hasn’t just happened naturally, from day one grads are given professional development opportunities that those who started off the scheme on a more senior level do not get the same access to meaning your role stagnates and you stay within the same role for your whole time there. It wasn’t until I left apetito that I truly realised how toxic the culture was and how much working there had affected me, but I’m now working at a company that genuinely cares for employee wellbeing and doesn’t just post about it on social media and I am slowly healing from my time there.
