Pros

In the Philippine office: + flexible work hours (work hours offset is possible within a defined 2-week period) + friendly engineers Japan office: + chance to travel around Japan

Cons

Philippine office: - boring projects - no formal training Japan office: - childish upper management - incompetent section/project managers - very, very long work hours - high turnover rate - no formal training - engineers are used for multiple projects, so more tasks for same time - engineers' skills are not utilized properly - always changing assignments, no chance to sharpen expertise

Pros

- You can go to Japan - Semi-flexi time - Nice people (except some managers) - Opportunity to work on different projects - House + utilities are offered by the company on a very cheap price

Cons

- No health benefits (aside from the goverment medical insurance) - Small amount of paid leaves (starts at 10, then increases by one per year) - When you take a sick leave, it will be subtracted from your paid leaves - Prepaid overtime (around 45 hours) - Recently, overtime payment is implemented, but on weekdays, overtime starts after 11pm. - Not Japan standard bonus (several months worth of pay), bonus here is just around 80k yen. - Management is contradicting itself. They say to go to work early and go home early, but they also require people to work 9.5 hours per day and give 120% effort. "Effort" in Japan means "doing overtime". - Some managers are not technicaly adept, so you must have a lot of patience in providing explanations. Be prepared for very long meetings. - Some managers schedule meetings during the night (8pm onwards) - Mostly self learning, no "real" training

Pros

- Subsidize housing/dormitory - Visa-sponsorship - Admin/HR helps with daily necessities especially when Japanese is required.

Cons

- not updated on technology - Required to render 45 hrs/month overtime but no payment - 45 hrs / month overtime is masked as prepaid OT which is paid but inconsistent with the contract which should be optional - Not allowed to go home even if already finish with the tasks - Overtime is more important even if you don't finish anything rather than finishing something earlier or on time - Unclear evaluation. Highest evaluation (we) know they given is below average - There is no clear management style. - Always trying new process instead of sticking to one and improving on it. - Employees are rotated on different project without any explanation - Manager not doing managerial work - minimum salary (in terms of IT Salary in Japan) - "Early In/ Early Out" policy is implemented but only "Early In" followed. - All internal project improvements are not considered as part of developers effort for the project. Not billed. - Roles are not defined. Some developers are doing managerial works. Tech leads are managers and developers. Managers don't do anything other than report or translator. - Some of the new hired employees do not know how to speak English. Some managers also don't know how to speak English.
