Pros

The people, although even in the time I spent there the high turnover meant this changed Due to high turnover there are usually openings to move around the company and progress in terms of job title. You will likely be asked to do more than your job title allowing you to develop skills and learn more if given the chance.

Cons

Compensation is not competitive - I left for the same role in another company close in proximity to simplehuman for a 25% payrise so salary offered is low compared to industry average. Management is luck of the draw - some quality and talent and others, especially in upper management seem to have no idea. If you are in the department with a good manager lucky you, if not good luck. There are not many of them. High turnover in my time at the company, in just over 2 years there were 13 departures, when the whole office is roughly 30 strong it causes large disruption and means work cannot be done to the highest quality. On this note, most with talent and ambition do leave for different jobs usually with a payrise being the main reason. The company feels more of a stepping stone than the family feel SME it previously had. There are far too many in the office who plainly don't seem to want to be there, this is a culture killer so any hopes of building a good company culture is hurt by this.

Pros

simplehuman is a growing company, in which employees are encouraged to grow too. There are always opportunities for training and development, and the atmosphere among colleagues is one of mutual support and friendship. Effort is recognised as well as success, and there's plenty of cake and laughter in the office. When I returned to work after maternity leave, and again during the childcare challenges of the COVID lockdown, simplehuman was really flexible regarding working hours and location. The Goring office location is idyllic and I'm proud to introduce simplehuman products to my friends and family.

Cons

The flipside to simplehuman's flexibility is that plans can change suddenly, and often quite late in the process. If you need to know what's happening a year in advance then we are not the employer for you!

Pros

* reflective and committed to improving internal communications * low staff turnover - many employees (including myself) stay for a number of years * approachable management * friendly working environment with a good social element * upward mobility from starting positions

Cons

Not a criticism, but a consideration for prospective employees: Flexibility is a must! Here in our UK team we follow the lead from our US head office, and then translate initiatives to support custom throughout Europe. Roles within the marketing team would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced and changeable work schedule.
