Pros

Attractive self sustainable product. Smart and passionate coworkers who know and love what they do. Modern tools with flexibility to pick tech stack that works for you and your team.

Cons

Toxic leadership. Get the smartest team around the world with poor leadership infusing stress and you will get vidiq. Teams are misaligned on strategy and execution. Zero transparency. Creative product ideas and offered solutions are being ignored. There are strong experts who joined the company over last year but it will be a long road of breaking the current plateau of bad practice and toxicity.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It is helpful for us to hear what is going well and areas for us to improve upon. We are glad to see your positive feedback on your smart and passionate colleagues and the product. We also appreciate your feedback around leadership challenges and lack of alignment. As a growing and rapidly evolving start-up, we sometimes have competing priorities for how best to allocate resources and which product ideas to escalate. While there might not always be agreement on these things, we strive for team members to feel heard and to have transparency on why certain decisions are made. We are making continued efforts on the senior leadership team to increase our communications and collaboration with our teams. If you are interested in discussing this further, we encourage you to reach out to your manager or to HR to continue the conversation.

Pros

Zero, this has been the worst stop of my career

Cons

1) I was lied to during the interview process about what was needed. If they had been upfront, I would have know that VidIQ's needs and my skills were not aligned. 2) Management was constantly demanding answers before datasets were stat sig. 3) No onboarding process. No one told me to buy a computer until 2 days before my start date. This lack of process started from day zero until I left. 4) Their data is utter trash. When I showed up you could not connect Email to video stats. They wanted analysis of different users profiles, but the foundation data couldn't support connecting a user profile to video stats. It was a joke. 5) Some of the original employees would push back on analytic needs, even though the company hired two analytic experts and the original employee had no back ground. Everything was a fight with someone who didn't really have the analytic skills but had power with the management

Pros

The company genuinely values helping people succeed on YouTube. While this may sound like a marketing gimmick, this does actually matter to the team from top to bottom. The tech behind vidIQ is genuinely impressive, with some very talented people putting in work to make it better, more reliable, and more useful every day. The company is remote-first, with a lot of cool perks and bonuses that stem from that.

Cons

Despite the company being relatively small and growing actively, very few opportunities for career growth are present. Instead of investing in existing team members who have experience with the product and the customer base, external upper management is hired and placed above the existing employees in the command chain. A greater problem is the company’s culture. Remote work can lend itself to tribalism, indirect communication, and mistrust. This should be prevented by the top management, but sadly it isn’t. As a result, the working atmosphere feels toxic and rife with talking behind each others’ backs. While working here, you may not get direct and clear feedback about your work. Praise is infrequent and is usually given to a select few superstar employees. The company makes efforts to communicate overall objectives and goals, but on the tactical level it’s very prone to sudden shifts and swerves. While this is normal for a growing business, the reasons for these changes are not always communicated well and usually are presented in a “you are doing this now” kind of way. Layoffs happen suddenly, without providing any chances for the employee to keep their position, remain within the company, or even say goodbye to the team. While firings are a normal thing for any business, the abrupt way they are being done is very disrespectful to employees. All in all, this leaves an impression that your work does not matter that much and you are easily replaceable.

We're glad to hear your feedback on our committment to our technology, your talented co-workers, and the perks that come with being a remote company. When it comes to career growth and performance feedback, we are developing processes this year that will help to foster and provide structure around these discussions.
