July is Disability Pride Month - a time to promote awareness and celebrate the achievements of the disabled community. Throughout the month, our EnABLE Colleague Network are hosting webinars, including guest speaker Chloe Tear, and sharing resources to continually help Anchor strive for better. Alex Byers, EnABLE Chair, said the following: “The support and allyship I’ve experienced through the enABLE Network have been truly empowering. This Disability Pride Month, I’m proud to stand alongside my colleagues at Anchor to celebrate our strengths and our commitment to inclusivity.” Being a Level 2 Disability Confident Employer it's really important that our awareness and support doesn't just happen in July. Inclusion is a consistent effort, and the colleague networks really help to embed this work in everything we do. Christine, Receptionist at Dawson Lodge recently celebrated a phenomenal 15 years service with us – what a tremendous achievement. 👏 When we asked Christine what she likes most about her job, it was no surprise that in this people-facing role, that it was the residents and their families who make her day. Here’s what she said: "I enjoy meeting new families when they arrive with the relative who will be staying with us. Over the years, I’ve met many families and got to know them very well – some have sent me cards and best wishes which are very nice to receive." Naturally over 15 years, Christine has seen many changes take place within the home and the wider care industry but said throughout her career Dawson Lodge has been a nice place to work, commending the Home Manager Kirsten and wider care team. Well done Christine!

He cares, do you? James, Team Leader at Anchor - The Mill House has been with Anchor an incredible 18 years, half of that as a Care Assistant and the most recent half as Team Leader. We were interested to know what his background was before entering care and establishing such a long and successful career with us. ‘My background is in fashion design and menswear tailoring which I a have a BA Degree and MA Degree in. Even during my studies, I worked in care. It was something I was always passionate about. When my firm closed and I had to leave the role, I came straight back to care industry. What I like most about working in care is the opportunity to meet different people and work with a diverse team. Both elements I experienced in the fashion industry and care alike, it’s a great fit for me.’ A lot of our care colleagues join us from other industries and find their transferrable skills and natural personality traits just align with the role. If you’re considering a career in care, we’d love to hear from you. Find out more about working in care here: https://bit.ly/4jSmv6r
