Last week saw the return of the annual Awaze hackathon. This year's theme was "Impactful AI", with 10 teams taking part across both Manchester and Copenhagen. Our Chief Operating Officer, John Crosby, described the day as a chance to "learn, share and explore", and we have had some great feedback from our teams on the benefits of working with colleagues from different squads. The teams came up with some really impressive solutions, with some truly awazing ideas and awards for the idea which possessed the most innovation, the most impact and with the best presentation (and a bit of voting controversy thrown in for good measure!).
On Friday, a number of our incredibly passionate Technology team members were delighted to visit Stretford High School in Manchester as part of their Careers Day for years 9 to 11. With one of our core values being inclusive, we wanted to demonstrate that a career in Tech is available to everyone! Our teams talked to pupils about what jobs in Tech really look like, as well as talking about the range of paths that some of our people took as part of their career journeys. Our teams are proof that there is no one size fits all, and there's a route for everyone 💚 We had a brilliant day and left feeling just as inspired as the pupils. A big thanks to our awazing ambassadors for going along and making this visit such a success.
Last week, our recently formed Awaze Supporting Women In Tech community hosted their first event, a virtual Q&A panel with some phenomenal women, chaired by our very own Kelsey Longley. We were delighted to host Amanda Newman, Krishna Vora-Lees, Denise E. White, Astrid Simonsen and Awaze's Lucy Auckland, who kindly shared their thoughts, advice and experience with our Technology, Revenue Management and Digital Product teams. Our teams all found the session super inspiring and we're already looking forward to our next event, so watch this space 👀 A huge thank you to all involved who gave up their time to make our first event a great success 💚
