Like a lot of businesses, we've been adjusting to/enjoying the new found freedoms allowed under Step 3 of the roadmap out of lockdown. The main lesson we've learnt this week is that the initial strange feeling of being in groups is far out-weighed by the joy of seeing our students smiling again. A sentiment we've captured in our blog, "A Taste of Freedom – The CODE Way"
There is always a smile on our team's faces when it's Free Food Friday! At the end of each month the entire CODE team are treated to a free meal from their choice of takeaway. It seems that on this occassion Nando's was the popular choice.
On Friday 23rd April, the CODE Events team held a book donation day whereby students and staff were encouraged to donate any books they like, have found useful or no longer need to the CODE Library. The CODE Library currently allows staff and students to borrow anything from bestsellers to self help books for up to 2 weeks and has proved incredibly popular. The success of the book donation day has meant we’ve been able to increase the variety of books we have to offer, however we are always looking for new suggestions. Is there a book that really resonated with you? Or a book that you really enjoyed? Please let us know via the comments.
As the country moves into the stage 2 of lockdown easing, our Coventry and Leicester site teams re-opened the onsite, state of the art gyms. As an employee of CODE Student Accommodation, staff are able to use the onsite gyms free of charge and with the 7am - 11pm opening times there is the opportunity to fit in your workouts either before or after working hours.
This March, several of the CODE team each ran 27 miles in 27 days in solidarity of the 27% of students who report a mental health problem whilst at university. The aim of Mind's 27 27 challenge is to send a clear message: its time to take our mental health seriously, and won't give up until everyone with a mental health problem gets support and respect. The staff at CODE Leicester recently raised £230 for local charity, Women's Aid Leicestershire Limited. WALL were established in 1974 and was the first refuge in Leicester to support women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Since 1974 they have continued to provide vital assistance to all victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. You can find out more about this incredible charity and the work they do here - https://www.wa-leicester.org.uk/
