Celebrating IWD All this week, RISE, our Colleague Gender Network, is celebrating International Women’s Day. Yesterday, our Lowell HQ hosted an incredible event centered around this year’s theme, Accelerate Action. We focused on shaping RISE’s key initiatives for the year ahead, with a strong emphasis on three priority areas: 💚 Supporting female returners re-entering the workplace after a period of absence, such as maternity leave 💚 Developing the early careers of women 💚 Tackling the stigma surrounding menopause and breaking down barriers The energy in the room was ELECTRIC, with over 100 Colleagues actively engaged in discussions on how we can drive meaningful change. To top it off, our talented choir surprised us with a performance of bread and roses, bringing to life the original poem dating back to the women's activist movement. Stay tuned for more updates on how RISE is accelerating action here at Lowell. #RISE #AccelerateAction #InternationalWomensDay
Fairer Debt. Fairer Society Last week our UK CEO John Pears joined the The Centre for Social Justice at Parliament for a roundtable discussion, bringing together local authorities and MPs to discuss standards across council tax debt collection. Raising standards forms part of our Fairer Debt. Fairer Society campaign, and with council tax bills set to rise, it's more important than ever that we push this conversation at all levels to ensure we see change 👇
Lowell Research in the Daily Mail Our latest research has been featured in today’s DailyMail.com, revealing five million Brits have been in council tax arrears over the last five years, highlighting the financial strain many households face. The insights drive our Fairer Debt. Fairer Society campaign, advocating for more compassionate Local Authority debt collection practices, emphasising that enforcement should be a last resort and based on residents' ability to pay. Last month Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner signed off increases in six local authorities beyond the usual 4.99 per cent threshold - and warned of more to come – suggesting figures are set to worsen. Lowell UK CEO John Pears said, 'Council tax debt is an issue which affects countless individuals and families across the UK. With so many people in arrears and experiencing mental health challenges, it's clear the current system is failing. With council tax rates rising across the board, we must consider the profound impact on people's lives. This increase can push families already on the brink into debt or deepen existing financial struggles.' Read the full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/eQPwMXPz
INTERGENERATIONAL FINANCES Recent research from Lowell shows that those aged 65+ are the only generation that significantly feels better off than their parents. Based on a recent survey of 8,000 UK residents in conjunction with Opinium looking at the financial situation of households across the UK, clear generational differences were highlighted. Key insights show: 💷 65+ Generation: Nearly 60% feel better off than their parents, with 34% saying they are a little better off and 25% feeling much better off. 💷 Younger Generations: In contrast, younger age groups (18-34 and 35-49) are more likely to feel worse off than their parents. 💷 35-49 age group: Almost half (47%) feel worse off compared to their parents, with only 31% feeling better off. This divide raises important questions around shifting opportunities and how we address the challenge younger generations are facing. Let’s discuss in the comments 👇

Whether it’s everyday budgeting, saving for the future, or planning for a big life milestone, Money Matters is designed to boost Colleague’s money confidence and give them the tools and know-how to make smart moves with their cash and benefits. Money Matters is about equipping ourselves with the tools and confidence to make informed financial choices—because supporting our Colleagues is just as important as supporting our Customers. Lowell funds the creation of new supported living accommodation in the Leeds area Work is currently underway to create Lowell House, a new supported accommodation for homeless young people in Leeds by Turning Lives Around (TLA), made possible thanks to a donation by Lowell. Former offices in South Leeds are being transformed into purpose-built accommodation for five young people aged 18-25 with complex needs. Lowell House is part of the government's Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP) which aims to provide up to 2400 homes and support services for multiple disadvantaged adults and young people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness or rough sleeping. As well as receiving support around independent living skills, budgeting, education, training and employment, the young residents will also have access to specialist counselling, occupational therapy and other services they may need to address personal challenges and enable them to live full independent lives.
