We held our annual OSCAR (Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition) Awards to recognise the outstanding achievement and dedication of staff and volunteers from right across the organisation. More than 300 nominations from staff, service users and family members were received for the 18 awards. Members of the MHA’s Leadership Team presented the winners with their awards in an event broadcast live across the organisation, containing videos where trustees and senior managers had gone out to present the awards to recipients in their own work settings. CEO Sam Monaghan said, "The awards highlight the tremendous ambition, desire and passion that our staff and volunteers have and we are all hugely grateful for their work.” This could be you, nominated for an award with the chance of winning as recognition of all you do to enable people to live later life well. Deputy manager at MHA Bradbury Grange care home, Tim celebrates 20 years anniversary and says “seeing residents happy” keeps him going. Tim started working at MHA Bradbury Grange when he was 16 and joined initially as a member of the kitchen team. He then climbed the progression ladder and moved into the care department, starting off as a care assistant, senior care assistant, residential support lead, and then deputy manager. He said, “my experience of working for MHA has been great and I do feel it's a mixture of the staff, the atmosphere at the home and the residents which has contributed to me being here for 20 years. The home is a very positive place to work, we all get along with each other and it's a lovely place to work. I would always recommend MHA as an organisation to work for, they have been very supportive in my progression, and I can't thank the organisation enough." Our 'Seize the Day' initiative enables people to fulfill a life-long dream or wish. We've taken people to the seaside, given a resident their first swimming lesson, visited favourite football teams, skydived, and a ride on the Big Dipper to name a few! Recently, MHA Greenways resident Kay re-visited Santander Bank where she was the first manager of the branch. She was there for 30 years and even met her husband there too. A very special place, Kay enjoyed going back with her husband and seeing how it had changed over the years. Activities Coordinator Joanne said, "It was great to see her really enjoying herself and that's what the Seize the Day initiatives are all about.” You could be a part of a really special day to remember, join #TeamMHA today!

As part of Black History Month, colleagues from our Race for Change Staff Network are sharing their stories. In this video, Nicci & Andre tackle the question 'How have you seen people's attitudes change towards race in your lifetime?' It's important for colleagues to have a safe space to share experiences honestly and openly. But it's also important for everyone to hear and reflect on their own life experiences. As part of our EDI strategy, we're working to lead the way for the care sector in EDI, not just in the way we develop our workforce, but how we deliver our services too.
