Our CEO, Octavius Black, was interviewed in the Telegraph this week. It’s behind a paywall, so we’re sharing a few key points below: 🟢 Companies have spent billions on unconscious bias training but there is no evidence it helps create inclusion. In fact, there’s some evidence it does more harm than good. Studies found employees who received the training were no more likely to behave differently or to nominate women or people from ethnic minorities for recognition. 🟢 The office is still important. Initially, people thought, ‘I can work at home, avoid my commute, and I don't have to buy expensive sandwiches from the shop.’ But the lack of real connections led some people to become detached from their company’s culture. Decisions became worse because people didn’t have the context anymore. It was this isolation during lockdowns that led to the so-called “Great Resignation” this summer, as people forgot what they liked about their jobs. 🟢 If companies can bring people physically together - though not all the time - we strongly advise them to do so
Being a parent has been a tough job over the last year and a half, with the lines between work, home, and our children's schooling suddenly blurred. But for parents who are in prison, it has been challenging in a different way; separated from their children and loved ones for months on end, at a time when feeling connected felt so important for so many. As a result, we weren't surprised when PACT (Prisons Advice and Care Trust) told us that the #1 factor reducing the re-offending rate is the strength of the imprisoned individual's connections to their family and loved ones. MindGym and Parent Gym are working with PACT to support them on the amazing work they do with prisoners to help them form long-lasting, happy relationships with the people they care about. And for the first time ever, we have three runners (Milly Sellers, Beth Pickford, Roy Diggory) entered in the London Marathon to raise money for PACT. Please join us in cheering on our fellow MindGymers!
